  • Patent number: 11465366
Abstract: A quick release leash which includes a flexible leash line that terminates in a male member of a quick release coupling. The quick release coupling has a female receiver which receives the male member in mating relation. A locking pin passage that intersects the female receiver. The male member of the quick release coupling has an aperture. A locking pin is axially movable in the locking pin passage and is biased by a biasing member into engagement with the aperture of the male member. When a force is exerted upon a manual release sufficient to overcome the biasing force of biasing member, the first end of the locking pin is withdrawn from the aperture of the male member and the male member is released. This quick release leash was developed as a safety device for water sports to quickly release a person from their board, but has wider application.

Abstract: This invention is designed for a person6 to interact7 with their dog8, or other animal, as a companion with the dog(s)9 pulling the vehicle at the dog's pace, with the dog in harness and still on a leash10. This allows the driver to maintain control of the dog at all times, including while the dog is pulling the vehicle at a walk, trot or run which would exceed most human's walking and running speed therefore giving the dog more freedom and exercise. This invention may also be used as a means to control a dog even when not pulling. 6 A person also denotes a “driver, owner, rider, trainer, handler, competitor, traveler' and the like.7 Interact also includes “recreate, exercise, compete, train, rehabilitate, transport, drafting” or the like.8 Dog as a singular will be used although more than one dog may be included.9 “Dog” is referred to here and includes any animal (such as horse, ox, goat or other) that may be used to pull a vehicle.

Abstract: A dynamically controlled retractable tether provides a mechanism by which a pet can be safely exercised on a bicycle or other vehicle. The pet avoids injury when running in front of the bicycle and stopping short, by having a detector detect the relative motion of the pet and the bicycle so as to automatically apply brakes to the bicycle prior to the pet being injured. Variations include a zone detection mechanism that detects a relative position of the pet relative to the bicycle, and uses a different set of braking parameters, depending on the zone in which the pet is located.
