Patent number: 6988468Abstract: An indexing style Automatic Port Cleaner for cleaning furnace combustion air ports employs multiple cleaning tips and rods enclosed substantially in a furnace windbox. An extension bar enclosed substantially in a furnace windbox to which the cleaning rods are attached with the extension bar carries the cleaning rods and tips in a translating and indexing motion. An extension bar is supported by two fulcrum rods and in turn supported by two fulcrum tubes and two fulcrum housings, the fulcrum housings being supported by a faceplate and fixed relative to the combustion air ports. The fulcrum rods translate relative to the fulcrum tubes while the fulcrum tubes rotate relative to the fulcrum housings. A linear actuator is disposed to create a reciprocating translating motion of the fulcrum rods, extension bar, cleaning rods, and cleaning tips. Indexing creates rotation of the fulcrum tubes, fulcrum rods, extension bar, cleaning rods, and cleaning tips, in a reciprocating fashion about the fulcrum housings.Type: GrantFiled: June 14, 2004Date of Patent: January 24, 2006Assignee: Clyde Bergemann, Inc.Inventors: Dan Higgins, Ken Pingle, Todd Hill, Mike Kranda, Jim Payne, Alan Clother

Patent number: 5799622Abstract: A furnace heat exchanger tube cleaning apparatus is described. The furnace comprises a combustion chamber for generating heated gases including combustion products, a water jacket containing a liquid to be heated and including heat exchanger tubes passing therethrough and a flue for discharge of the combustion products. In operation, the heated gases including combustion products flow from the combustion chamber along the heat exchanger tubes to the flue. As the heated gases pass along the heat exchanger tubes, heat from the heated gases is transferred to the liquid in the container, thereby heating the liquid. The efficiency of heat transfer is increased by helical flights arranged to depend downward into the respective heat exchanger tubes from a support structure. Specifically, the flights create turbulence in the flow of the heated gases, thereby improving heat transfer.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 1997Date of Patent: September 1, 1998Assignee: Decker ManufacturingInventor: Clarence Waldner

Patent number: 4980120Abstract: An articulated lance for cleaning sludge located between steam generator tubes is disclosed. A plurality of radius blocks are attached to the end of manipulator member and are actuatable by a cam assembly to form an arc permitting the lance to be received between adjacent tubes within a tube bundle. A plurality of fluid passageways interconnect a fluid inlet on the manipulator member with one or more outlet orifices adjacent the end of the lance. The outlet orifices are positioned outwardly with respect to the end of the manipulator member so that fluid passing therethrough can be directed to impinge upon sludge surrounding the tubes. A spring backing place biases the radius blocks and the manipulator member back into the same plane upon deactuation of the cam assembly.Type: GrantFiled: December 12, 1989Date of Patent: December 25, 1990Assignee: The Babcock & Wilcox CompanyInventors: James M. Patent number: 4907543Abstract: A boiler air port cleaner in the form of a substantially plate-like cutter reciprocated by a piston and cylinder power device and guided by a guide structure mounted on the outer wall of a boiler with the plate-like cutter cleaning slag from air ports in the inner boiler wall.Type: GrantFiled: November 7, 1988Date of Patent: March 13, 1990Inventors: Joseph G. Patent number: 4822428Abstract: Apparatus for cleaning air ports in a chemical recovery furnace includes a plurality of rods, each having a cleaning tip thereon, mounted on a wind box adjacent the furnace. The rods are longitudinally slidable to insert the cleaning tips into the air ports, and are rotatable about an axis perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the rods so as to index the cleaning tips to a new point of insertion into the air port opening. An air cylinder actuator is employed to insert the cleaning tips into the openings in a ramming motion to dislodge residual buildup in the air port opening, retract the cleaning tips from the air port openings, and index the tips to a new point of insertion. Successive invocation of the actuating means results in removal of residual buildup along the entire length of the air port openings.Type: GrantFiled: April 29, 1987Date of Patent: April 18, 1989Inventor: Byron L. Patent number: 4538552Abstract: A primary air duct for a chemical recovery furnace is rectangular in cross section. Smelt accumulates on the walls of the air duct at the furnace end. A scraper structure is comprised of a pair of C-channels hinged together at one end. A mechanism moves the hinged scraper forward so it can be guided into scraping contact with the duct walls. The edges of the C-channels are guided by pin and groove engagement between the channels and the duct walls. The scraper is reciprocated from an inoperative position to a scraping mode by a rod to which force is applied.Type: GrantFiled: December 3, 1984Date of Patent: September 3, 1985Assignee: Combustion Engineering, Inc.Inventor: Robert T.
