  • Patent number: 8955485
Abstract: Various systems for reducing noise, vibration, and harshness in an intake manifold are provided. In one example, an intake manifold includes one or more runners, a plenum fluidically coupled to the one or more runners, an inlet having a wall thickness, and a first and a second indentation, where the first indentation protrudes radially inward at a first inflection point in a first direction, the second indentation protrudes radially inward at a second inflection point in a second direction substantially anti-parallel to the first direction, and the wall thickness is maintained at the first and second inflection points. In this way, noise, vibration, and harshness associated with the intake manifold and its inlet may be reduced without additional weight, cost, or complexity.

  • Patent number: 8528510
Abstract: An intake assembly for a 3-cylinder, V-configured engine comprises an intake manifold configured to conduct combustion air to a first, two-cylinder, cylinder head housing assembly and a second, single-cylinder, cylinder head housing assembly. A centrally extending plenum defines a plenum axis. A first plurality of intake runners, in fluid communication with the plenum, extend from a front side and transition through a circumferential arc around an upper side to deliver combustion air to, the first, two-cylinder, cylinder head housing assembly. A single intake runner, in fluid communication with the centrally extending plenum, extends from a rear side and transitions through a circumferential arc around the upper side to deliver combustion air to, the second, single-cylinder, cylinder head housing assembly. A zip tube delivers combustion air to the central plenum at a location that is between one of the first plurality of intake runners and the single cylinder intake runner.

  • Patent number: 7886708
Abstract: An intake air control apparatus comprises an intake air path connected to a combustion chamber, and an intake airflow control device having a first opening deviated in one direction when viewed from an axial direction of the intake air path by partially closing a cross-section of a flow path of the intake air path, and that controls distribution of an intake airflow by deviating the intake airflow downstream of the first opening to a side in which the first opening is formed, the intake airflow control device having a second opening of smaller opening area than that of the first opening, and deviated in an opposite side to the side in which the first opening is formed and at a location away from an intake air path wall.

  • Patent number: 7444974
Abstract: An internal combustion engine intake device includes an intake collector and a first air induction pipe. The intake collector includes a first collector space and a second collector space. The first air induction pipe extends diagonally downward from an upstream side of the intake collector with respect to a horizontal direction of the vehicle. The first air induction pipe includes a first air induction space and a second air induction space. The intake collector and the first air induction pipe are configured and arranged such that a first boundary plane defined between the first collector space and the first air induction space is substantially perpendicular to a direction of an intake air flow from the first air induction space into the first collector space and the first boundary plane is substantially coplanar with a second boundary plane defined between the second collector space and the second air induction space.

  • Patent number: 6880526
Abstract: An intake system for an internal combustion engine in which the inflow characteristic of a mixture of gas is varied by a partition wall provided replaceably in an intake port opening, whereby the output characteristic of the internal combustion engine is regulated to a desired condition, and a vehicle having appropriate operating characteristics is provided. A replaceable partition wall A is mounted in an intake port opening 1a of an internal combustion engine. The partition wall A is composed of a plate P that differs in length as compared to other plates. The plate P is inserted into an upper-lower pair of grooves provided in the intake port opening 1a, whereby the plate P is replaceably mounted, and the inflow characteristic of a mixture of gas sucked in through the intake port opening 1a is varied by replacement of the plate P thus mounted, whereby the output characteristic of the internal combustion engine is regulated to a desired condition.
