Publication number: 20080121202Abstract: Engine starting apparatus comprising a one way clutch. A first oil seal is located on the outer side of a second oil seal in the radial direction of a ring gear. Upon starting of an engine, the time that the first oil seal is slid on the ring gear is short, and after the start of the engine, the first oil seal is not slid on the ring gear. The second oil seal is located on the inner side of the first oil seal in the radial direction of the ring gear. Therefore, the second oil seal hardly deteriorates even if slid on a flywheel at high speed after the start of the engine. By locating the first and second oil seals at different positions in the radial direction of the ring gear, it is possible to improve the startability and the lifetime of a starting apparatus. At least one oil seal has a taper shape in order to generate a thrust force which forces the ring gear away from the flywheel.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 5, 2005Publication date: May 29, 2008Applicant: TOYOTA JIDOSHA KABUSHIKI KAISHAInventors: Toshiaki Asada, Shuichi Ezaki, Makoto Ishikawa, Kazuhito Sakai

In one example, the starting device includes engagement structure adapted to bias a portion of the pawl towards at least one of the ratchet teeth of the toothed housing automatically when the starter pulley is rotated. In addition or alternatively, the toothed housing includes an interior area that at least partially receives the spring housing.Type: GrantFiled: May 11, 2006Date of Patent: August 7, 2007Assignee: Husqvarna Outdoor Products Inc.Inventor: William B. Patent number: 7234431Abstract: A starter device (1) for an internal combustion engine has a starter drum (4) which acts upon a spring housing (11) when starting. An intermediate spring (10) is arranged in the spring housing (11). One end of the intermediate spring (10) is fixed to the spring housing (11) and the other end of the intermediate spring (10) can be coupled to the crankshaft (3) of the engine via a first catch (23). The spring housing (11) and the starter drum (4) are journalled on a shaft (7) held at one end. Patent number: 7201130Abstract: A recoil starter enabling a power-driven device to be coupled to a crankshaft of an engine in a state where the recoil starter is mounted to the crankshaft on the same side of the engine as the crankshaft is disposed on. A starter housing is provided on an inside thereof with a reel support shaft which projects coaxially with the crankshaft. A rope reel having a recoil rope wound thereon and a cam, which transmits rotation via centrifugal ratchets to the crankshaft, are rotatably mounted on the reel support shaft while they are rotatingly coupled to each other via a damper spring. An opening is formed in the reel support shaft so as to extend from a distal end thereof near the crankshaft to the outside of the starter housing. A drive shaft of the device is coupled to the crankshaft inside the opening. An annular plate is secured to the starter housing to prevent the cam and rope reel from being detached from the reel support shaft.Type: GrantFiled: May 31, 2005Date of Patent: April 10, 2007Assignee: Starting Industrial Co., Ltd.Inventor: Hideki Hashiba

Patent number: 7162988Abstract: An activation device for activating an engine of a power tool includes an activation unit, a clutch unit and a transmission unit, wherein the clutch unit is connected between the activation unit and the transmission unit. The activation unit includes a first spring disk and a second spring disk. When the activation unit rotates clockwise, the transmission unit rotates in the same direction via the clutch unit. When the first spring disk releases the energy to rotate the activation unit counter clockwise, the clutch unit disengages the activation unit from the transmission unit so that the second spring disk rotates the transmission unit to start the engine.Type: GrantFiled: July 19, 2006Date of Patent: January 16, 2007Inventor: Chia-Hsing Liao

Patent number: 6901899Abstract: A recoil starter capable of readily staring an engine and reducing the number of components and manufacturing costs thereof and reducing a size and weight thereof. The recoil starter is so constructed that a rotational force accumulated in a cushioning and force accumulating means interposed between a rope reel and a cam is transmitted via the cam to a drive pulley, to thereby start the engine. A ratchet mechanism is provided between the rope reel and the cam so as to uncouple the cam from the rope reel when the rope reel is rotated in an engine starting direction and so as to couple the cam to the rope reel when the rope reel is rotated in a direction opposite to the engine starting direction, thus rotating the cam and the rope reel together in said opposite direction.Type: GrantFiled: October 17, 2003Date of Patent: June 7, 2005Assignee: Starting Industrial Co., Ltd.Inventors: Shuhei Tsunoda, Toshinori Morishige
