  • Patent number: 10876996
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a gas sensor includes a step of preparing an assembly including a sensor element, a metal cylindrical body through which the sensor element penetrates in an axial direction, and a protection cover that is attached to the cylindrical body and that covers one end side of the sensor element. The method also includes steps of arranging a coil in a periphery of at least a portion of the cylindrical body at the same side as the other end of the sensor element with respect to the protection cover to avoid the protection cover of the assembly, induction heating the portion of the cylindrical body where the coil is arranged in the periphery by applying current to the coil, and hence removing oil adhering to the portion.

  • Patent number: 10344682
Abstract: An internal combustion engine (10) with variable valve timing has one or more valve shafts (38, 44) connected to stepper motors (54) for angularly positioning the one or more valve shafts (38, 44) relative to an engine block (12). Flow passages (50, 52) are formed into the one or more valve shafts (38, 44) for passing intake air and exhaust gases into and from the engine (10). Sensors (58, 60 and 62) are located adjacent a crankshaft (28) and the one or more valve shafts (38, 44) for determining crankshaft positions and valve shaft positions relative to the engine block (12). An engine control unit (56) receives crank shaft and valve shaft position signals and emits control signals to the stepper motors (54) to selectively operate the engine in two stroke, four stroke, six stroke, eight stroke, and ten stroke modes.

  • Patent number: 8302392
Abstract: An exhaust control device for a vehicle engine includes an exhaust control valve capable of changing the opening area of an exhaust passage. The exhaust control valve is disposed in exhaust passage forming means so as to be able to change a bent-internal side partial passage sectional area of the passage sectional area of an exhaust passage. Specifically the exhaust control valve is disposed at a bent portion of the exhaust passage that is closest to an exhaust valve port. With this configuration, the exhaust flow rate can be controlled satisfactorily.

  • Patent number: 7568464
Abstract: An apparatus and method for controlling charge motion in the air intake manifold includes a barrel-style valve rotatably mounted in the lower air intake manifold between the linearly arranged set of air inlets and the first and second sets of laterally offset air outlets which branch to the first and second cylinder banks, respectively. The barrel valve includes a plurality of openings and is rotatable between a fully open position wherein the plurality of openings are in alignment with the respective air inlets and outlets in the lower manifold allowing substantially unimpeded airflow therethrough, and fully closed position wherein the plurality of openings are substantially fully out of alignment with the respective air inlets and outlets substantially preventing air flow therethrough while allowing air flow through an air bypass formed adjacent to each air inlet and outlet pair.

  • Publication number: 20080168962
Abstract: The invention concerns an internal combustion engine in which, instead of conventional valves, a rotary slide valve (1) for opening and closing at least one gas exchange opening is assigned to each cylinder (33, 34). The rotary slide valve (1) is provided in the form of a double-walled tube with two channels (40, 44), which are separated from one another, for leading away exhaust gases and for supplying air or a fuel vapor mixture, whereby the channels are provided with radial channels (41, 42, 38, 45, 46) that directly lead to openings on the outer lateral surface of the rotary slide valve (1) and, depending on the rotational position, connect one or more of the cylinders (33, 34) to the intake or exhaust channels (10, 11).
