Patent number: 5002025Abstract: A lubricated cylinder wall in which an oil permeable cylinder ring is located on the inside surface of a cylinder. Oil from an oil supply channel located behind the oil permeable ring supplies the ring with oil. When the oil pressure in the oil supply channel is greater than the pressure inside the cylinder, oil is forced through the oil permeable ring and onto the inside surface of the oil permeable ring. Because the ring is located in the cylinder wall at a location above the bottom dead center location of the piston, upward motion of the piston inside the cylinder sweeps oil from the inside surface at the oil ring over the inside surface of the cylinder. The oil ring is installed in the cylinder by coiling it to a smaller diameter then the cylinder, placing the coiled ring in a groove on the inside surface of the cylinder, pressure fitting the coiled ring into the groove, and then honing the inside surface of the ring to be flush with the inside surface of the cylinder.Type: GrantFiled: June 18, 1990Date of Patent: March 26, 1991Inventor: William H. Patent number: 4441465Abstract: A lash adjuster oil-supplying device has an oil path formed within the hollow center of a camshaft of an overhead camshaft-type engine. An oil jet hole is formed in said camshaft which communicates with said oil path. A first oil passage extends from a cylinder head through the camshaft housing to the camshaft, and a second passage extends from the camshaft through the camshaft housing to a passage for supplying oil to lash adjusters, which is formed in the cylinder head. Oil enters the oil path within the camshaft from the first oil passage, and, after passing through the oil path, is supplied to the passage for supplying oil to lash adjusters through the second passage. A portion of the oil passing through the oil path is ejected through the oil jet hole to lower and regulate the oil pressure supplied to the lash adjuster, independent of engine speed. This prevents pump-up of the lash adjuster without using a special oil-pressure regulator.Type: GrantFiled: November 12, 1981Date of Patent: April 10, 1984Assignee: Toyota Jidosha Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Yukio Nakamura

Patent number: 4392463Abstract: A diesel engine has a first lubrication system, containing conventional engine oil, used to lubricate that section of the engine subjected to excessive wear--the valve train including the cam shaft, valve lifters, rocker arm, valve stems, etc., and a second lubricant system, utilizing diesel fuel, for lubricating the remaining section of the engine--the crankshaft and associated parts, pistons, connecting rods, etc. By being exposed to crankcase blowby exhaust gases, diesel fuel used to lubricate the crankshaft, etc. absorbs pollutants and contaminants contained therein and recirculates these contaminants through the fuel system to be burned and exhausted. By constantly being lubricated with fresh lubricant, wear on these specific parts is reduced. Frequent lubrication changes have been eliminated because the diesel fuel/lubricant is continuously changed and circulated through fuel system.Type: GrantFiled: August 7, 1980Date of Patent: July 12, 1983Assignee: Nissan Motor Co., Ltd.Inventor: Seishi Yasuhara
