Manual Adjustment Patents (Class 123/339.13)
  • Patent number: 9562496
Abstract: A carburetor has a carburetor body having a venturi passage that conveys air from an air inlet to an air outlet. A throttle valve controls flow of the air in the venturi passage. The throttle valve is movable into a closed position, an open position, and at least one transition position between the closed position and the open position. A fuel bowl holds fuel for mixing with the air in the venturi passage. A main nozzle discharges the fuel from the fuel bowl to the air in the venturi passage when the throttle is in the open position. A secondary circuit that is smaller than the main nozzle discharges fuel from the fuel bowl to the air in the venturi passage when the throttle is in the closed position, the transition position, and the open position. A filter is configured to remove particulate matter from the fuel in the fuel howl prior to discharge via the secondary circuit. Methods are for making the carburetor and operating the carburetor.

  • Publication number: 20130228153
Abstract: An operator-controllable valve opens or closes an idle air bypass passage in a motorcycle, allowing an operator astride the motorcycle to set an idle position manually. A handle permits a first adjustment by the operator without use of a screwdriver or other hand tool. An additional interface enables a wider range of adjustment using a hand tool. Both interfaces vary depth of an air mixture screw of the valve within an idle air bypass passage of a throttle body. Dual cylindrical members of the valve rotate relative to one another and relative to a base of the valve, each cylindrical member driven by one of the interfaces. Locking the cylindrical members together such that both rotate in tandem upon the operator moving the handle is accomplished by either tightening the handle or tightening a nut coupling the handle to the valve. A handlebar adjustment lever may couple with the handle.

  • Patent number: 8463527
Abstract: An electronic engine controller utilizes a controller network interface for direct communication between an electronic engine control unit associated with an engine and the controller to monitor and control the engine. The controller uses a microprocessor and custom programmable software to monitor and determine operational parameters as well as institute and send electronic commands to the electronic control unit in a pre-determined response operational framework. The controller monitors certain engine operational parameters when enabled. If the engine remains in an unloaded condition for an extended period of time, the controller automatically throttles the engine down to idle condition to save fuel. It does this by issuing commands to the electronic control unit which controls operational functions or parameters of the engine. The engine parameters and idle time are configurable, allowing the setup to be optimized for a particular method of operation, regardless of the specific application.

Abstract: A throttle valve for throttling the combustion air flow for an internal combustion engine is disclosed, having a body with a throat, a butterfly in the throat to throttle flow, and a shaft connected to the butterfly to operate it. The shaft has an arm that abuts a throttle stop to maintain the butterfly in an almost-closed (or idle) position. The arm has an opening that permits access to the head of the throttle stop to adjust the throttle stop when the throttle valve is in the almost-closed position. The opening is located so that a tool such as a hex wrench can pass through the opening and engage a socket in the head of the throttle stop, pemitting it to be rotated and adjusted. The throttle shaft and arm are preferably integrally molded of plastic, and the throttle stop head is preferably larger than the threaded shaft of the throttle stop.
