  • Patent number: 10975785
Abstract: Systems and methods for operating an engine that includes one or more fuel injectors are described. The systems and methods may characterize fuel injector operation during a time when injecting fuel may be useful to maintain balance of a catalyst to reduce engine emissions. Further, large or small amounts of fuel may be injected without affecting engine combustion.

  • Patent number: 8954256
Abstract: The vehicle-use speed control apparatus sets a virtual preceding vehicle assumed to run at a target speed at a predetermined initial distance ahead of the own vehicle when the brake pedal is operated causing a relative speed between the actual vehicle speed and the target speed exceeds a predetermined value, calculates an initial value of a performance index for approach and alienation based on the initial distance and the target speed. Thereafter, the vehicle-use speed control apparatus repeatedly calculates a following distance to the virtual preceding vehicle based on a time elapsed from when a speed control start condition is satisfied, the current relative speed and the initial distance, and a target relative speed based on the initial distance, the initial value of the performance index and the following distance, and controls the vehicle speed based on the difference between the target relative speed and the actual relative speed.

  • Patent number: 5060134
Abstract: Circuitry is provided which effectively expands one, and preferably two or more, high resolution timed outputs of a microprocessor device such that a larger number of output signals are selectively, and independent of one another, switched to output states at times determined in accordance with the occurrence of the timed outputs of the microprocessor. Essentially, high resolution event time occurrence information is provided by a microprocessor dedicated output port. Previously, information on a microprocessor data bus and address bus is utilized to selectively enable certain desired ones of a plurality of output latches and determine the next desired state of such enabled latches. All of the output latches effectively receive the high resolution timed output signal of the microprocessor. The result is an advantageous and cost effective high resolution expansion of the microprocessor outputs.

  • Patent number: 4368706
Abstract: A governor sleeve is axially displaceable on a stationary governor shaft and has an inner space which is adjoined by the governor shaft and which communicates with the inner chamber of a pump housing charged with fuel. The inner space varies in volume drawing thereinto and discharging therefrom fuel in response to axial displacement of the governor sleeve. According to the present invention, there is provided a helical groove which is formed in the outer cylindrical surface of the governor shaft or the inner cylindrical surface of the governor sleeve. Such groove effects a forced fuel conveying action of forcedly, though yieldingly, conveying fuel from the inner chamber to the inner space, which is effective in preventing an acceleration jerk and smoky exhaust upon rapid engine acceleration.

The inner space varies in volume drawing thereinto and discharging therefrom fuel in response to axial displacement of the governor sleeve. There is provided valve and channel means which establishes restricted communication between the inner space and the inner chamber upon displacement of the governor sleeve in the direction to produce contraction of the inner space and substantially unrestricted communication between same upon displacement of the governor sleeve in the opposite direction to produce expansion of the inner chamber in order to prevent an acceleration jerk and smoky exhaust.

  • Patent number: 4286558
Abstract: A centrifugal governor for fuel injected internal combustion engines is proposed, especially an idling and final rpm governor for Diesel vehicle engines, in which the sudden emission of smoke upon starting of a heavily loaded engine is prevented. The improved governor comprises an additional idling spring secured on a force transmitting lever which is acted upon by the main control spring and by means of which additional idling spring in the idling setting of the service lever the restoring force of the idling spring on a portion (b) of the idling sleeve path (a) is amplified. This force of the additional idling spring is, however, made at least partially ineffective by a thrust member when the service lever is pivoted into the full-load position.

  • Patent number: 4248188
Abstract: A diaphragm operated, air fuel control system for controlling the rate of fuel flow to an internal combustion engine in response to intake manifold pressure is disclosed wherein the transient response of the diaphragm operator is attenuated by a fuel filled control chamber. An attenuator assembly connected with the control chamber causes fuel to be supplied to the chamber at a rate which is greater than the rate at which fuel may be discharged from the control chamber. In one embodiment the chamber is formed on the side of the diaphragm operator which is opposite to the side to which intake manifold pressure is supplied. In another embodiment the control chamber is formed to receive one end of a plunger valve connected with the diaphragm operator.
