Abstract: The present invention relates to a device for preventing sudden acceleration of an automobile that is installed in a power transmission structure disposed between a throttle valve and a motor for the throttle valve in the automobile, such that if the motor is activated by an electrical error at a state where an accelerator pedal is not depressed by a driver, the power generated from the motor is not transmitted to the throttle valve. The device for preventing sudden acceleration of an automobile fitted with an automatic transmission according to the present invention is configured wherein even though a motor opening and closing a throttle valve is activated by an electrical error at a state where an accelerator pedal is not depressed by a driver, the power generated from the motor is not transmitted mechanically to the throttle valve, thereby preventing casualty caused by sudden acceleration.

  • Publication number: 20100044130
Abstract: A method controls an overrun operation in a motor vehicle, wherein, in the presence of predetermined switch-off conditions, an overrun switch-off of the internal-combustion engine takes place by interrupting the fuel feed, and wherein, when a predetermined restoring speed is reached or fallen below, the fuel feed is resumed. Starting from an operating state with an activated overrun switch-off, the transmission line between the output of the engine and the input of the transmission device is monitored as to whether a torque difference is occurring which is greater than or equal to a predetermined limit torque. In such a case, the internal-combustion engine is driven by an electric machine coupled with the crankshaft of the internal-combustion engine such that a rotational speed of the internal-combustion engine is adjusted to be greater than or equal to the restoring speed.

  • Publication number: 20040035389
Abstract: With a method for controlling the fuel supply to an internal combustion engine, in particular to a two-stroke motor, a parameter (K) of the machine, which is influenced by the fuel supply in a delayed manner, is tuned to a predetermined desired value (SW) by switching on and cutting off the fuel supply. The hysteresis is largely compensated in that an upper and/or lower threshhold value (OS,US) is allocated to the desired value (SW) of the parameter (K), that the parameter (K) is continuously measured, and that the fuel supply is cut off when the measured parameter (K) crosses the lower and/or upper threshhold value from below to above, and that the fuel supply is switched on when the measured parameter (K) crosses the upper and/or lower threshhold value (OS,US) from above to below.

  • Publication number: 20030056754
Abstract: An engine shutdown valve for terminating air flow to a diesel engine and thereby shutting down the engine. The shutdown valve is an integral casting and comprises the valve body and associated nozzles. A land is machined on the valve body for attachment directly to the flange of a solenoid. A spindle assembly has a spindle with a flange and an associate spacer for retaining a compression spring between respective shoulders on said flange and spacer. The spindle has an area within the spring of a significantly smaller diameter thereby to avoid contact with the spring during operation.

  • Patent number: 5740779
Abstract: A sensor is employed in conjunction with an internal combustion engine having at least one hydrocarbon fuel combustion chamber and an air inlet for introducing air into the combustion chamber to sense termination of operation of the internal combustion engine. The sensor closes a valve leading to a carburetor inlet of the engine when termination of operation of the internal combustion engine is sensed. The valve and associated structure improve the performance of the internal combustion engine when the valve is in open position by enhancing fluid flow through the air inlet leading to the carburetor during operation of the internal combustion engine.

  • Patent number: 5642712
Abstract: A two-stage time operated throttle and method is described for use on a drag racing vehicle comprising: (i) an electro-mechanical controller for selectively opening and closing the throttle of the vehicle; (ii) an on-board processor capable of issuing an open throttle control signal and a close throttle control signal; (iii) a first adjustable timer set prior to launch to a predetermined first value whereby, upon expiration of the first value, a close throttle signal is issued; (iv) a second adjustable timer set prior to launch to a predetermined second value, which is greater than the first value whereby, upon expiration of the second value, an open throttle control signal is issued; and (v) a signal for modifying at least one of the first and second values subsequent to launch based on actual race conditions. A four-stage time operated throttle and method is also provided by adding a third timer and a fourth timer.

  • Patent number: 5203536
Abstract: An engine shutdown valve comprises a housing and a gate movable within a housing between a first position where the air flow through the shutdown valve is substantially unrestricted to a second position where the opening is restricted thereby stopping air flow. The gate is pivotable about an axis and a drive is located concentrically about the axis to rotate with the gate. The drive has a recess which is engageable by a piston movable between a first position where the gate is held in its latched position and a second position out of engagement with the recess so as to allow the gate to move to a position where the air passageway is closed. The piston assembly is located substantially wholly within the housing with only the piston of the piston assembly extending therefrom. The housing is divided into two halves joined together with cap screws having axes transverse to the axis of rotation of the gate.
