  • Patent number: 9273698
Abstract: A fan unit for a heat exchanger of a vehicle, has a plate-like support structure or shroud which has a main opening defining a passage for a flow of air for ventilation of the heat exchanger, and an electric fan arranged to cause the flow of air. The fan has a drive motor and an impeller connected to the motor. The support structure or shroud has a top side intended to extend at a small distance from a horizontal cross-member of the heat exchanger or the vehicle, so that an interspace is defined between them. This top side of the support structure or shroud has a flexible sealing gasket which has a configuration such that, in the assembled operating condition of the fan unit, the gasket is able to close off the interspace.

  • Patent number: 9267419
Abstract: A convex fan shroud for use with an automotive engine cooling system having a fan and a fan-cooled, liquid-to-air radiator is disclosed. The convex fan shroud has an optimized shape that leads to high air flow rates through the radiator. The convex fan shroud includes a front frame that defines an air-intake opening, a convex top wall connected to the frame, a convex bottom wall connected to the frame, and a pair of opposed convex side walls connected to the frame and to the top and bottom walls. The interior surfaces of the walls are smooth. The convex walls define a barrel-shaped shroud body that includes a round engine-facing opening to accommodate the fan. In addition to generating a higher flow rate, the disclosed inventive concept for a smooth convex fan shroud is relatively low cost to produce and has a relatively high degree of rigidity.

The control device includes a control unit, a first signal generation unit and a second signal generation unit each connected to the fan. The control unit has a first signal output terminal and a second signal output terminal. In use, the control unit first enables the first signal output terminal to generate a speed adjusting signal to control the fan. The control unit further detects whether a speed measurement signal is received from the fan, and enables the second signal output terminal to generate the speed adjusting signal to control the fan, if no speed measurement signal is received.

The barrel portion is adjacent to the body portion and defines a cylindrical opening for a fan. The barrel portion and the body portion define a slot in the fan shroud designed to release excess air pressure from the shroud. The slot extends through at least one of the first side and the second side. Any number of slots of different shapes and sizes may be arranged on the fan shroud to reduce noise radiating from the fan shroud.
