Abstract: A cylinder block, often a siamese cylinder block, for an internal combustion engine having a heat pipe located in each of the common walls between adjacent cylinders where at least one of the ends of each heat pipe extends into the cylinder block coolant passage such that heat emanating from each cylinder flows into an adjacent portion of one or more heat pipes and flows through the pipes by continuous evaporation and condensation of the pipe's working fluid into the engine coolant.

Abstract: Cooling arrangements that cool down fuel injectors exposed to the high temperature combustion in direct injected engines so that no heavy oil components deposit on nozzles of the fuel injectors. A bypass of water flow extends in the proximity of the boss where the fuel injector is inserted to expedite cooling of the fuel injector. A cavity extending toward the boss can replace the bypass or can be additionally provided. The fuel injector boss and a spark plug boss are connected with each other and make a wall that can obstruct water flow. Another bypass is provided to clear water away from a backwater formed at the wall. In case that some heavy oil components deposit on the injector nozzles for some reasons, a control system for controlling the fuel injection is allowed to adjust amounts of the fuel basically in response to the temperature of the injector nozzle.

Abstract: In a water-cooled internal combustion engine with a cooling water path extending from a supply passage at one side of the engine through cooling water spaces around the engine cylinders to the cylinder head and back to a cooling water return channel at the other side of the engine, a separate annular cooling water channel extends around each cylinder adjacent the combustion chamber and this annular cooling channel is supplied by cooling water in a flow path parallel to the flow path through the cylinder head so as to provide for adequate cooling of the cylinders adjacent the combustion chambers.
