  • Patent number: 7799109
Abstract: The invention relates to a device for separating a gas-liquid mixture, in which the liquid portion exists in the form of small particles, especially for ventilating a crankcase of an internal combustion engine, by separating and coagulating the liquid particles on a target area. The liquid mixture, after acceleration in acceleration openings provided for this purpose, impacts the target area at an approximately right angle. The aim of the invention is to improve the aforementioned device in such a manner that it allows as high a degree of separation as possible for different sized volume flows of mixtures. For this purpose, the number and/or the cross-sections of the acceleration openings is varied, depending on the volume flow of mixtures, between a small complete cross-section for a low volume flow and a large complete cross-section for a large volume flow.

Abstract: A valve for the control of a gas stream is provided with a valve housing enclosing a valve chamber. At least one pressure-sided inlet and at least one suction-sided outlet is provided with a valve opening between them to link them. An elastically movable control membrane is arranged at the valve housing which reduces or increases the flow cross section in the area of the at least one valve opening and/or opens or closes the at least one valve opening. A first device exerts a first further force on the control membrane in such a way that with an increasing pressure difference the further force exerted by the first device on the control membrane in opposite direction to the closure direction of the valve increases.

Abstract: An abnormality diagnosis device for diagnosing abnormality in a positive crankcase ventilation apparatus including a PCV passage, which is for supplying blow-by gas to an intake passage of an engine, and a PCV valve, which is for regulating the flow rate of blow-by gas in the PCV passage. The diagnosis device varies a control amount of the PCV valve to determine the occurrence of an abnormality in the PCV passage and PCV valve and performs abnormality diagnosis in a first determination mode when the amount of fuel components in the blow-by gas is less than a reference amount and in a second determination mode when the amount is greater than the reference amount. A varying amount of the control amount of the PCV valve in the second determination mode is smaller than that of the control amount of the PCV valve in the first determination mode.

Abstract: A recovery system for fuel for motor vehicles includes a canister having an absorbent media such as activated charcoal. The canister includes an inlet in fluid communication with the blow-by vent of an internal combustion engine and an outlet in communication with the air intake manifold of the engine. Control valves may be incorporated into the system to control fluid flows. As a single vaporization temperature fuel or fuel constituent such as ethanol that has mixed with engine oil during startup vaporizes when the oil reaches its vaporization temperature, it is first absorbed in the activated charcoal and then slowly released and burned in the engine. The system has particular applicability to E85 fueled vehicles.

For an internal combustion engine, control valve devices, which control the operation of a hydraulic valve stop mechanism that serves as a cylinder stop mechanism, and an outer chamber wall of a breather chamber wall that forms a breather chamber into which a blow-by gas flows, project in a predetermined direction and are mounted on the outer surface of a top wall of a cylinder head cover. When viewed in the predetermined direction, the outer chamber wall has an overlap section that overlaps with a part of the control valve device. Therefore, the overlap section is covered in the particular direction by the control valve device.
