  • Patent number: 11920530
Abstract: A method for delaying cylinder reactivation in a vehicle includes identifying, by a controller, a request to exit a cylinder deactivation state. The controller determines if the request is due to a transient condition. If the request is due to the transient condition, the controller analyzes at least one of the transient condition and a condition of the vehicle. The controller determines a first adjustment to the vehicle based on analyzing at least one of the transient condition and the condition of the vehicle. The first adjustment is configured to mitigate the transient condition. The controller implements the first adjustment.

Abstract: When a valve body is rotated toward a full-close position in a valve-close mode, a control portion controls an electric motor so that the rotating speed of the valve body is lower than that in a valve-open mode. A rotating speed of the valve body around the shaft in the valve-close mode is lower than that in the valve-open mode. Thus, when the seal ring is brought into contact with the inner wall surface, an impact generated therebetween can be moderated. While the valve body is rotated toward the full-close position, a seal ring is gradually elastically deformed. A sliding friction between the seal ring and the inner wall surface can be reduced.

  • Patent number: 7848872
Abstract: A method for controlling EGR gas flow in an internal combustion engine during ongoing operation includes determining an engine operating point and a preferred EGR fraction for a cylinder charge based upon the engine operating point. A feed-forward command for controlling an external EGR gas flowrate to an engine intake manifold based upon the preferred EGR fraction for the cylinder charge is determined. An EGR ratio in the intake manifold is determined. And, the external EGR gas flowrate is controlled based upon the estimated EGR ratio in the intake manifold and the feed-forward command for controlling the external EGR gas flowrate.

  • Patent number: 7607638
Abstract: During normal operation of diesel engines the EGR valve poppet often becomes stuck to the valve seat in the closed position, due to excessive build up of exhaust gas debris, which renders the valve inoperable. This usually occurs after the engine is shut down and the valve is seated. Features, which locate the valve poppet in an unseated position when not in use, are implemented into the EGR valve design to prevent this sticking from occurring, thereby increasing product robustness and prolonging product life.

Abstract: An exhaust gas recirculation apparatus (5) for an internal combustion engine (1), in particular in a motor vehicle, has an exhaust gas recirculation line (9) which can be connected at the inlet end to an exhaust gas system (4) of the internal combustion engine (1) and at the outlet end to a fresh gas system (3) of the internal combustion engine (1) and having a return valve (12) arranged in the exhaust gas recirculation line (9) for adjusting an exhaust gas recirculation rate by varying the flow-through cross section of the exhaust gas recirculation line (9). To improve the efficacy of the exhaust gas recirculation, the exhaust gas recirculation valve (12) is designed so that it adjusts the respective exhaust gas recirculation rate at least in one operating state of the exhaust gas recirculation apparatus (5), so that it alternately reduces and increases and/or blocks and opens the flow-through cross section of the exhaust gas recirculation line (9) at predetermined or regulated switching points in time.

  • Patent number: 7530222
Abstract: A hydraulic assembly and method for use with an vehicle engine exhaust flow control valve for controlling flow to at least one intake supply. The assembly has an actuator, such as a spring return piston cylinder, for positioning the control valve. An inlet passage, communicating with the cylinder, is arranged for supplying hydraulic fluid to a side of the actuator and a drain is arranged for draining the hydraulic fluid from the side of the actuator. An on-off type hydraulic valve, communicating with the drain, is operably coupled to the cylinder for controlling communication of the hydraulic fluid from the cylinder side to the drain. When the hydraulic assembly is in use, the pressure of hydraulic fluid acting on the actuator is adjustable by operation of the on-off type valve thereby to control movement of the actuator and, in turn, movement of the control valve.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to an exhaust gas recirculation valve incorporating a DC motor and a dual poppet valve assembly. A motor is contained inside of the actuator housing. The motor has a rotatable motor shaft with a first gear connected to the end of the motor shaft. A second gear is engageable to the first gear and is configured to rotate in response to the movement of the first gear and the motor shaft. The second gear is also connected to a pin member disposed through the top portion of a shaft member that has two poppet valves disposed on to the shaft. The two ends of the pin member are slidably engageable to either an upwardly or downwardly sloped ramp portion. When the second gear rotates the shaft rotates and moves upward or downward to cause the valve members to move between an open and closed position.
