  • Patent number: 5154141
Abstract: The invention relates to new and useful improvements in the exhaust and induction processes of the piston driven internal combustion engine. In the invention a gas ejector is used in conjunction with a poppet valve to control the induction of air and the discharge of combustion gases through a common duct within the engine cylinder head. The common duct is brought into communication with the clearance volume above the engine piston by rotation of the engine camshaft which is made equal to the rotation of the engine crankshaft, such that the poppet valve is operated at twice the cycle frequency required for four-stroke operation in the conventional engine. By operating the valve at this cycle frequency, and by the employment of gas ejector systems at the cylinder head above the poppet valve, and at another position on the engine cylinder near the bottom dead center of the engine piston travel, the engine is able to function interchangeably as a four-stroke or as a two-stroke system while running.

  • Patent number: 4864979
Abstract: The combustion engine of this invention is basically a two stroke engine at which each revolution of the crankshaft is subjected to a power stroke in each of the cylinders. However, this engine is chargable with turbo- or loader-pressure to increase its power considerably. For this purpose the engine has exhaust slots with an exhaust collection chamber on one end of the cylinders and the head cover on the other end of the respective cylinder. Each head cover is provided with at least one independent first inlet valve and a second independent inlet valve, while the passages to the inlet valves are completely separated from each other. Through the first inlet valve a flashing flow is passed to clean the cylinder from exhaust gases, while after closing of the first inlet valve, the second inlet valve is opened to pass a pre-compressed or loaded flow into the cylinder at a time when the exhaust slots are already closed.

  • Patent number: 4562796
Abstract: A reciprocating combustion engine is improved by a cycle which applies outlet slots at the bottom of the cylinders, through which the exhaust gases exit to pass into a charger drive unit, while the charger drive unit drives a charger which delivers air or mixture over inlet valve means into the cylinder. The charging is also used to drive the exhaust gases out of the cylinder. Four cycle engines can thereby made up to two-stroke engines with super-charging. Outlet valves and heat on them as in typical four-stroke engines are spared. Flow areas into and out of the cylinder are increased and so is the power of the engine. A charger-arrangement provides a plurality of flow streams to super-charge the cylinders, to cool the valve head and to cool the valves. The head of the piston has a configuration relative to the valve head for preventing dead space and respective losses.

  • Patent number: 4069794
Abstract: The two-stroke engine has a piston mounted in a cylinder having a full diameter bore throughout its major length and a reduced diameter upper bore portion. The piston has the same configuration and in its upward compression stroke, air and finely-divided water droplets are admitted into an annular space formed between the piston's reduced diameter and the cylinder's full diameter. Flow of the air water mixture through an exhaust valve cools the motor. At TDC (top dead center) the upper surfaces of the piston and the cylinder mutually form a relatively small spheroidal combustion chamber. Differing compression ratios in the annular and the spheroidal chamber cause the air-water mixture to rush into the spheroid in a swirling motion to intimately mix with injected fuel. Ignition produces a complete burning. End gases or the like are burnt in the cooler annular space to avoid detonation. The fuel injection is in measured increments determined by the temperature and pressure of the water mixture.
