Throttle Position Responsive Patents (Class 123/683)
  • Patent number: 5746176
Abstract: A method and an arrangement for controlling an internal combustion engine is suggested wherein, in at least a first operating range, a lean air/fuel mixture are pregiven and, for a power command from the driver (for example, in transient operating states or in the vicinity of the full load range) a switchover to a stoichiometric mixture takes place; during the transition, the torque change (caused by the change of the air/fuel ratio) is essentially compensated by correspondingly influencing the air supply to the engine.

  • Patent number: 5715796
Abstract: There is provided an air-fuel ratio control system for an internal combustion engine installed on an automotive vehicle. The control system controls the air-fuel ratio of a mixture supplied to the engine to a value leaner than a stoichiometric air-fuel ratio immediately after the start of the engine. Operating conditions of the engine and/or operating conditions of the automotive vehicle are detected. Starting of the vehicle is predicted based on the detected operating conditions of the engine and/or the detected operating conditions of the automotive vehicle. The air-fuel ratio of the mixture supplied to the engine is changed to a richer value than the leaner value when the starting of the vehicle is predicted.

  • Patent number: 5655508
Abstract: A cylinder-disabling control system for a multi-cylinder engine provided with an exhaust manifold to which each exhaust port is connected, which control system comprises: an engine performance sensor; an operation mode selector for selecting the cylinder-disabling mode or the all-cylinders-engaged mode; and a disabled-cylinder designator for designating as disabled at least one of the most upstream cylinder and the exhaust pulse-affected downstream cylinder, when the cylinder-disabling mode is selected, thereby improving driving stability at low rpm's.

  • Patent number: 5575266
Abstract: A gaseous fueled engine and method for controlling the gaseous fuel supply using a feedback control to maintain a stoichiometric mixture under all normal running conditions. The feedback control is discontinued under certain running conditions and control is provided in another method so as to accommodate situations such as starting, conditions when the catalyst associated with the engine is overheated, conditions when the engine is running at wide open throttle to avoid the possibility of catalyst overheating and conditions of rapid deceleration so as to reduce the fuel supply and avoid overly rich exhaust gases when the engine is operating as a pump under extreme deceleration.

  • Patent number: 5558062
Abstract: Small engine control is provided in which a manual selection of an engine operating level, such as from a positioning of a movable selector between a discrete number of selection settings is used to reference open-loop fuel, air, and ignition timing commands for application to respective actuators in accord with simple yet accurate and flexible engine control. Control precision, sensitivity, and stability are enhanced through engine parameter feedback control, wherein any of the open-loop air, fuel and ignition timing commands may be adjusted in accord with a difference between a feedback signal and a target value.

  • Patent number: 5515828
Abstract: An electronic engine controller (EEC) controls transient engine operation by generating a desired torque value which is indicative of an engine torque desired by a driver of the vehicle and by generating a desired air/fuel ratio value which is indicative of a desired air/fuel ratio to be combusted by the engine. The EEC also generates an actual torque value which is indicative of the actual engine torque and an actual air/fuel value which is indicative of the air/fuel ratio actually combusted by the engine. The actual A/F may be the output of a standard, switching type EGO sensor. An air/fuel difference value indicative of the difference between the actual air/fuel value and the desired air/fuel value is generated, and a torque difference value, indicative of the difference between the actual torque value and the desired torque value is generated.

  • Patent number: 5450836
Abstract: With an internal combustion engine wherein a target air-fuel ratio is set on the basis of engine load and engine rotational speed, a setting for a lean air-fuel ratio for improving fuel consumptions prohibited, when an increase in grade resistance is detected or when winding road conditions are estimated, and sets a target air-fuel ratio to ensure drive power is forcibly set. As a result, lean combustion can be avoided under running conditions requiring drive power, so that the vehicle power performance can be ensured as required.

  • Patent number: 5357937
Abstract: An internal combustion engine includes a lambda control device having a lambda sensor and a lambda control for regulating a fuel-air mixture to be supplied to an internal combustion engine to a set-point value, outside of full load operation, as a function of an output signal of the lambda sensor, and a mixture control device for setting the fuel-air mixture to a value being less than the set-point value, during full load operation of the internal combustion engine and with the lambda control switched off.
