  • Patent number: 11959402
Abstract: A method of using a through axle switching rocker arm according to one example of the present disclosure is provided. The switching rocker arm comprises an outer and inner arm and a roller axle. The inner arm is pivotally coupled to the outer arm about a pivot axle and has an inner bushing that supports an inner roller. The inner bushing defines an inner diameter. The roller axle extends through the inner bushing and defines an outer diameter. The inner diameter of the inner bushing engages the outer diameter of the roller axle thereby inhibiting further pivoting of the inner arm relative to the outer arm defining a rocker arm travel constraint. The method includes designing first and second cam profiles based on the through axle switching rocker arm such that a difference in lift between the first and second cam profiles is held within the rocker arm travel constraint.

  • Patent number: 7748356
Abstract: The invention relates to a valve train for internal combustion engines, comprising a camshaft and valve actuation elements for one or more valves, the elements being located in the cylinder head. The aim of the invention is to provide a valve train for an internal combustion engine, with which a reliable stroke adjustment of the valves can be made, without the need for complex technical resources, while at the same time allowing a forward or rear displacement of the valve orifice region. To achieve this, in order to modify the valve stroke curve, the contact point between the transfer member and the cam can be displaced along the periphery of the cam and the contact point between the transfer member and a control curve of the support body can be displaced, forcing the part of the transfer member that interacts with the cam to be guided, by shifting the transfer member in relation to the camshaft.

  • Publication number: 20100083922
Abstract: In an internal combustion engine using poppet type valves, a center pivot rocker arm is moved through a specific path wherein the roller in contact with a cam is moved to alter the phasing of the valves or injectors in the engine. Depending on the interface between the valve or injector and the rocker arm, the rocker ratio of the rocker arm may be altered, giving a change in lift as well. By positioning a control arm at desired points on either side of a centered position, and rotating the control arm about its own pivot point via an arm actuator, phase change is achieved. The arm actuator controls the location of the control arm and thus the timing of the valve or injector relative to the rotation of the cam. Advanced, centered, and retarded phase change is possible depending upon the movement of the control arm.

Abstract: The invention is characterized in that the gas exchange valves of a cylinder are displaced in a displacement unit (15, 34) jointly and independently of the displacement of the displacement devices of the other cylinders. Every displacement unit (15, 34) is associated with separate actuators for actuating the same. Angle of rotation sensors (42, 43) are provided to detect the angle or rotation signals of the crankshaft and the camshaft or any other shaft rotating at half the crankshaft speed. These angle of rotation signals are used to derive the common idle phase of all valves of a cylinder to be jointly adjusted, a control unit (44) effecting the displacement of every displacement unit (15, 34) during said common idle phase.

Abstract: The invention relates to a device for the variable actuation of gas exchange valves for internal combustion engines, wherein at least one cam (2) pertaining to a camshaft (1) mounted in a housing rotates according to the engine speed. The cam (2) first drives an intermediate member (4) which performs a clear oscillating, rotary movement and has a rotational axis (7) that can be displaced in the housing parallel to itself along a curve of displacement (8), said intermediate member comprising a control cam (5) having a lifting region (5b) and actuating an output member (11) that, in turn, actuates at least one valve (13). The aim of the invention is to enable one such device to be reliably controlled.

Abstract: A two-step roller finger follower having a movable high-lift portion and a low-lift portion. A lock pin mechanism in the low-lift portion includes a lock pin that may be driven hydraulically into latched engagement with the high-lift portion. The lock pin assembly comprises a lock pin and a separable switching pin. A blocking clip mountable on the associated hydraulic lash adjuster includes first and second ends that extend into a switching pin locking groove to block axial motion thereof. A ramp on the follower body mates with a ramp on the blocking clip such that oscillatory motion of the follower engages and disengages the blocking pin from the locking groove. The clip unblocks the switching pin at only those times in the camshaft rotational cycle when complete locking and unlocking is assured, and ending well before the beginning of the next valve lift event.

  • Patent number: 7255076
Abstract: The present invention provides a variable valve lift apparatus for vehicle engines. A low-speed arm is installed in a high-speed arm to overlap the high-speed arm. A compression pin, a center pin, and a return spring are installed in a roller shaft of the low-speed arm and both cylinders of the high-speed arm. Further, an oil passage extends through a rocker arm shaft boss and a side body of the high-speed arm to the cylinder having the compression pin. Such a construction reduces the overall width of the apparatus, allows respective valves to be independently controlled, reduces design limitations due to the interference with a cam journal, and easily ensures an oil path. Further, a latching pin (the compression pin and the center pin) is supported at two places, thus enhancing the reliability and stability of a latching operation.
