  • Patent number: 8839770
Abstract: An assist for drawing a bowstring of a compound bow to a position close to the standard draw position is described. The assist is a crutch that is inserted into a crutch mount that is affixed to the riser of the bow. The crutch allows the archer to place the bow on a support surface and to pull the bowstring up onto the crutch. When the archer is ready to shoot an arrow, he pulls the bowstring back from the crutch. The head of the crutch rotates into a vertical position, providing an unencumbered path for the arrow.

Abstract: A compound bow may feature the ability to pre-store energy before the drawing back of the draw string. Various embodiments contemplate that this may allow an archer to draw back the draw string or cable, and upon reaching the let off region of the compound bow's draw profile, cause the pre-stored energy to be transferred to the energy being stored by the bow. Various embodiments contemplate that this addition of pre-stored energy may give the archer more energy, held in the draw string or cable, to transfer to an arrow upon release, propelling it at greater speeds than would have been achieved with a compound bow of equal draw weight that does not feature an energy storage mechanism. Various embodiments contemplate that a system may provide for a return position of the draw. For example, this may remove the pre-stored energy from the draw string or cable as the draw string or cable is returned to an undrawn position.

Historically. crossbows have had a single foot stirrup, centered at the front end of the crossbow, to assist the user in the cocking procedure. Though functional, a single stirrup does not allow the user to naturally center the crossbow with his body while cocking the crossbow, which may cause miss-alignment of the bow string, as well as possible loss of balance and fatigue. • Patent number: 8651095
Abstract: A compound bow or crossbow employs bowstring cams with bowstring cam grooves and power cord cam grooves. Preferably a pair of generally identical power cord cam grooves are positioned axially above and below the bowstring cam groove. The power cords are anchored to a fixed anchor point, e.g., a pylon, on the near end of the riser or on the near side of the crossbow bar or stock. The power cords do not cross over to the other limb. The reduction in the number of cam wheels and pulleys and in the number of strings or cords results in greater efficiency and higher transfer of energy from the bow to the arrow or bolt. There is no drop-off in pull weight at full draw. The bolt or arrow accelerates throughout the travel of the bowstring, resulting in significantly higher velocity.

Abstract: A crossbow includes a riser having projecting limbs with first and second pulleys mounted on the limbs for rotation around respective axes. A barrel extends from the riser, and a bowstring cable extends between the pulleys outside of the barrel for engaging and propelling a projectile. A pair of pulley rotation power cables extend between the pulleys through slots in the barrel, and a spacer is disposed adjacent to the riser and disposed in the barrel for engagement by the pulley rotation power cables at the end of the power stroke to dampen vibration from the riser and cables to absorb vibration that otherwise might be transmitted to the barrel.

  • Patent number: 8590522
Abstract: Bow stabilizer assemblies according to various embodiments may comprise, for example: (1) an elongated housing that is adapted to be selectively attached to a bow; and (2) a plurality of dampener supports that are adapted so that, when the bow stabilizer is attached to the bow, each dampener support maintains a respective dampener in a plane that is substantially perpendicular to the plane of the bow. In various embodiments, the dampener supports are adapted to maintain the dampeners different distances away from a portion of the bow (e.g., the bow's front surface). In particular embodiments, the dampeners may be selectively removed and replaced (e.g., with dampeners of different sizes and/or shapes) without tools. This may allow users to quickly change the configuration and dampening attributes of the bow stabilizing and shock dampening assembly assemblies while the bow stabilizing and shock dampening assembly remains attached to the bow.

  • Patent number: 8567381
Abstract: A bowstring sound dampener is disclosed. The dampener comprises a sleeve and a piston. The sleeve is generally cylindrical with a frustoconical first end adapted to threadedly receive a mounting rod for connecting the dampener to a bow. The sleeve comprises a second end which is flared outwardly with a pair of generally V-shaped grooves formed diametrically therein creating a pair of diametrically opposed arms. The sleeve is configured to matingly receive the piston therein. The piston is formed as a generally cylindrical member having a pair of grippers extending therefrom on one end with a groove formed therebetween. The grippers flare outwardly from the piston in a diametrically opposed configuration and are mounted to the piston such that the grippers move inwardly when the piston enters the sleeve, thereby grasping the bowstring, and outwardly when the piston exits the sleeve, thereby releasing the bowstring.
