  • Patent number: 5297493
Abstract: The present invention relates to a burn pot for particulate combustors, particularly of the type used for burning particulate fuel such as pellets. The burn pot includes a burn pot body surrounded by an air plenum in which air is delivered and exhausted through openings in side, front, and bottom walls of the burn pot body. A rearwardly inclined back wall is moved by a driver to reciprocate forwardly and rearwardly toward and away from the front wall. The back wall is inclined opposite to the front wall in order, upon reciprocating motion, to engage and move the particulate material toward the front wall, bunching it for more efficient combustion, clearing the openings in the burn pot walls, and forcing ash up the front wall and over the upper ash discharge edge thereof. The burn pot and back wall are removably mounted within the firebox to facilitate removal for cleaning, maintenance or replacement.

  • Patent number: 5074279
Abstract: A draft controller for use with a combustible solid fuel comprises an elongated band of heat-resistant material such as sheet metal which can be flexed so that attachment devices provided on the ends of the band can be interengaged to provide an open-topped container of adjustable size and which can then be disposed on a fuel-supporting surface, for example, within a barbecue, to confine the fuel to a limited area. Or, the ends of the band can be left open to confine the fuel in a broader, shallower area. In one embodiment, the flow of combustion air to and across the top surface of the burning fuel can be controlled by forming the band with a width which varies between its two ends. In another embodiment, air flow openings are provided in the band of different sizes and/or spacings. In both embodiments, the position of the container so formed can be rotationally adjusted to optimize combustion and top surface burning of the fuel having regard to the strength of the wind.

  • Patent number: 4726349
Abstract: A portable grill device comprises a firebox which has a hexagonal plan form and six side walls and is made of sheet steel and of even height and is provided with at least three detachable legs, a vertically adjustable cooking grid and a pot-holder that pivots on a vertical axis. In the corners of each of the side walls inwardly bent lug sheets are arranged together which with the corner sections of the side walls form connector lugs open at the top and bottom and having a rhombic cross section. Into these connector lugs, rhombic connecting pegs of the legs can be inserted form-fittingly from the bottom side of the firebox, and from the top, either connecting pegs of wind-guard walls or additional legs can be inserted to form a girder-like kettle or grid hanging device, or pot-holders. Each of the legs comprise metal tubes at one end have a connecting peg with rhombic cross-section, bent by 30.degree..

  • Patent number: 4236500
Abstract: A log-burning stove which contains a full refractory firebox, the stove designed to permit the easy insertion of large, economical, wood logs, particularly green logs, which stove comprises a shell defining a combustion chamber, the combustion chamber fully lined with refractory material, and having an entrance and a full-length loading door adapted to permit the easy introduction of logs into the combustion chamber, the door adapted to move between a closed, upright, sealed position and an open supporting position extending generally laterally from the lower portion of the entrance opening, the door containing roller means on the internal surface thereof which provides for the lateral movement of a large log thereon which permits the positioning of the log adjacent the center of the entrance, whereby, after said positioning of the log adjacent the opening, the log may be moved inwardly through the entrance and into the combustion chamber.
