Abstract: A wood-burning stove includes side-walls joined together in an airtight manner to form a firebox and a heat chamber there above. The firebox in this wood-burning stove is a drawer on rollers/sliders and pulls out for ease of placing fuel exactly where the operator wants it and severely decreases the risk of injury or burning. This is accomplished by not having to place the fuel into the enclosed cavity of the wood-burning stove increasing risk of injury and decreasing the accuracy of where you would like to place the fuel in the firebox. In addition there are knobs that control the airflow into the firebox that controls the combustion giving the operator control over the temperature in the firebox and allows the fuel to burn more efficiently.

Abstract: The present invention is drawn to a gas grill or add-on component for a gas grill that provides the additional functionality of permitting grilling with either gas, charcoal briquettes, or wood chips. The additional functionality of being able to cook with charcoal or wood chips on a gas grill is achieved by positioning moveable flaps in a second position thus providing a horizontal surface above the gas burner, yet below the cooking surface, upon which to place charcoal briquettes. Spaces on either side of each pair of flaps allow the gas burners to be used to ignite the charcoal briquettes or wood chips. Once the charcoal briquettes or wood chips are ignited, use of the gas burner is discontinued. The charcoal or wood chips are permitted to burn to complete ash, then the moveable flaps are placed to a first position thus forming an apex that permits the ash to fall into an ash pan located in the bottom of the firebox.

  • Patent number: 4597375
Abstract: A maximum efficiency stove or furnace for heating homes or other buildings is disclosed. The furnace includes a combustion chamber supported within a furnace housing by an ash pan. The combustion chamber is spaced apart from the furnace housing to define an air circulation chamber therebetween. A horizontal flue extends through the upper portion of the air circulation chamber, from the rear of the combustion chamber to the front of the top wall of the furnace housing. The ash pan includes a number of heat transfer tubes projecting therethrough to define a grate upon which the fuel is burned and a secondary grate below the heat transfer tubes. The furnace also includes an ambient air preheating chamber attached to the outside surface of the housing. The air to be heated is drawn through the preheating chamber and admitted into the air circulation chamber, whereupon it flows through the heat transfer tubes, around the combustion chamber and flue, and is then exhausted into the room to be heated.

  • Patent number: 4557248
Abstract: A furnace for wood log fuel having apparatus which automatically inserts the logs into the furnace combustion chamber. The log fuel is retained in a sloping ramp storage compartment. Electrical circuitry controlled by a thermostat operates to move a log into an elongated chamber from which a motor driven injector pushes the log into the combustion chamber through a doorway covered by a flexible, segmented flap covering and also a door which is pushed open by the advancing log. The presence of the log on a spring mounted grate operates certain switches to return the injection mechanism to its ready condition and also to operate a fan which provides combustion air to the combustion chamber. The reduced weight on the grate by the consumption of the log by the fire permits the grate to move to a position to re-initiate the log injection cycle.

  • Patent number: 4426992
Abstract: A free standing stove is provided which includes a firebox for initiating the combustion of fuel, and a secondary combustion chamber for continuing the combustion. A first conduit is provided for conveying air through a draft inlet damper and into the firebox. A second conduit is provided for conveying air into the secondary combustion chamber. A third conduit conveys the gasses of combustion from the secondary combustion chamber and out of the stove. A fourth conduit may also be included which would be mounted in thermal contact with the third conduit, the fourth conduit including a lower end and an upper end and being adapted to receive ambient air in its lower end and warm the air prior to discharging it out of the upper end.

  • Patent number: 4416248
Abstract: A barbecue kettle has radially aligned slots in the hemispheroidal bottom thereof. A disc is mounted immediately above the center of the bottom for rotation about a vertical axis and has three arms secured thereto. A handle below the bottom is secured to the disc. The arms are generally triangular in cross-section and have distal edges fitting closely to the bottom. In one position, the arms cover the bowl openings, but may be rotated back and forth to push ash along the bottom of the bowl to the openings where it will fall out. The disc, arms and handle are designed to be assembled without using any tools.

  • Patent number: 4353351
Abstract: A solid fuel furnace is disclosed as including a firebox disposed inside of a heating chamber through which air to be heated is passed. A pair of baffles guides the air through the heating chamber to progressively heat the air. In addition, an auxiliary air system is provided to inject air into the fire when there is a heating demand to increase combustion and provide more heat when it is most needed.A modified solid fuel furnace is also disclosed which includes a combustion chamber having a door designed to prevent flash-back when the door is opened, a valve for preventing a flow of combustion air to the combustion chamber when the temperature in the combustion chamber rises above a present level, and a manual override for the valve.

  • Patent number: 4307704
Abstract: A stove ash retaining device is disclosed for use with stoves and furnaces having an ash pit which serves as the combustion chamber also simultaneously. The retaining apparatus includes a housing having a floor, sidewalls, a top and an end to define an open end thereof adapted to admit ashes therethrough. The open end includes a cover movably positionable extending thereover to prevent the moving of light ash therefrom during disposal of ashes. The housing includes an inclined entry ramp extending downwardly therefrom adapted to extend into an ash pit over the edge of an ash door of a conventionally configured stove. The apparatus further includes a tool device including a rake for separating the ashes from the coals and a hoe for pulling the separated ash up the inclined entry ramp into the retaining chamber therefore defined by the housing.

  • Patent number: 4090490
Abstract: A portable barbeque grill having a coal-receiving member hingedly connected to a cover member rotatably mounted between a pair of inverted U-shaped side frame members. The hinge means between the cover member and the coal-receiving member mounts the coal-receiving member and cover member off center between the juncture of the rear legs and the bight portion of the inverted U-shaped frame members so that the coal-receiving member can rotate under its own weight to a position wherein coals and ashes can be readily removed from its interior. The coal-receiving member can be locked in a substantially horizontal position by retaining pins received through the juncture of the front legs and bight portions of the inverted U-shaped frame members and inserted into the coal-receiving member to preclude it from rotating.
