  • Patent number: 7500567
Abstract: A storage and dispensing cart for receiving, storing, and dispensing charcoal briquettes includes a storage bin member, a storage compartment member and a screening assembly. The screening assembly is disposed within the storage bin member at a lower end to provide a continuous screening of the charcoal dust and small particles, or fines, that are developed when the charcoal briquettes move against each other during filling of the storage bin member or when the briquettes are dispensed. The screening assembly is comprised of a screen mesh that allows the fines and dust to fall to a lower collection chute that gathers and directs the fines and dust into a collection pan that forms a collection repository. The collection pan is removable from the cart so the fines and dusts can be discarded without removing all of the briquettes from the storage bin member.

  • Patent number: 6739331
Abstract: A charcoal dispensing system for storing and dispensing charcoal. The charcoal dispensing system includes a bin member being designed for receiving and storing charcoal. A dispensing assembly is coupled to the bin member. The dispensing assembly is designed for permitting charcoal to be dispensed from the bin member when the dispensing assembly is actuated by the user. A receiving member is selectively coupled to the bin member. The receiving member is in communication with the dispensing assembly whereby the receiving member is designed for receiving the charcoal dispensed by the dispensing assembly. The receiving member is designed for being carried by the user to dispense the charcoal into the grill.

  • Patent number: 6386194
Abstract: The invention relates to a masonry fireplace and a masonry fireplace log box fitted with a door (interior or exterior) or doors (both interior and exterior) that permits firewood to be loaded into the log box without need to carry wood through the interior of the home. Many masonry fireplaces that are constructed in new homes include a built-in log box (or firewood box) as part of the masonry structure. The log box consists of a recessed chamber with sufficient depth to allow a supply of firewood to be stored convenient to the fireplace without need to stack the wood on the hearth or the floor near the fireplace (or stove insert). With the present invention, the firewood is stocked into the log box from the exterior of the home and removed as needed from the interior opening of the log box. In the case of the single interior or exterior door, the door is insulated for energy efficiency and fitted with a locking mechanism to prevent entry by an intruder.

  • Patent number: 5074279
Abstract: A draft controller for use with a combustible solid fuel comprises an elongated band of heat-resistant material such as sheet metal which can be flexed so that attachment devices provided on the ends of the band can be interengaged to provide an open-topped container of adjustable size and which can then be disposed on a fuel-supporting surface, for example, within a barbecue, to confine the fuel to a limited area. Or, the ends of the band can be left open to confine the fuel in a broader, shallower area. In one embodiment, the flow of combustion air to and across the top surface of the burning fuel can be controlled by forming the band with a width which varies between its two ends. In another embodiment, air flow openings are provided in the band of different sizes and/or spacings. In both embodiments, the position of the container so formed can be rotationally adjusted to optimize combustion and top surface burning of the fuel having regard to the strength of the wind.

  • Patent number: 4349213
Abstract: A rack and carrier for stacking and transporting firewood for both commercial and residential use which is capable of standing freely in a rigid manner when fully assembled and being collapsable for easy storage in a narrow or flat space. The rack is constructed from a pair of upright side frame members which are held in rigid spaced relation by three brackets attached at the bottom, midway and the top of the frame members by certain attachment means. The rack when constructed for residential use can be moved using handles attached to the top portions of the frame members, such handles can be fixed, pivotable or removable, and a pair of wheels attached to the bottom of the frame members. The rack when constructed for commercial use rests on a set of legs which provide sufficient clearance for the tines of a lift truck and can be moved by such lift truck or an overhead crane which can hook into the bottom opening of each of the set of upper attachment means.

  • Patent number: 4277021
Abstract: Fuel is burned in the lower chamber of a furnace with hot products of combustion rising past an air-to-air heat exchanger to an upper chamber to which outside air is supplied for secondary combustion. Air is heated in a compartment above the upper combustion chamber and passes, together with air within the heat exchanger, through a closed circulation system to a duct within a stone-filled heat storage chamber, then to an air-to-water heat exchanger, through the stones in the heat storage chamber and back to the heating compartment and air-to-heat exchanger. Water heated in the air-to-water exchanger is used for space heating purposes, as in baseboard hot water heaters. Some of the heat may also be used to power a heat engine and/or to dry wood to be used as fuel in the lower combustion chamber.
