  • Patent number: 5307798
Abstract: The invention is a very lightweight pad or base for use with a small portable stove such as those used by backpackers or mountaineers. It provides a stable bearing surface when the stove is used on unstable surfaces such as snow or sand. The pad comprises an exterior frame which completely encloses a spider-like structure on which the stove rests. Preferably two legs of the spider have upstanding cleats to engage the base of the stove. A third leg has an attached spring which also engages the stove base to bias it firmly against the cleats and hold the stove in place. These legs are preferably spaced about 120.degree. apart. The spider may contain additional legs to increase strength and bearing surface. Since the cleats are of very low profile the pad is essentially planar and takes up little space in a backpack.

  • Patent number: 4204516
Abstract: A collapsible back-packing stove for use with a Sierra-type cup is disclosed, which includes a container comprising a back portion, two opposite side portions of substantially equal size pivotally connected to the back portion, a bottom portion of substantially equal size to the back portion and pivotally connected to the back portion, and a top portion pivotally connected to the back portion. The top, back, front and side portions align to form an open-sided container with a plurality of vertically-spaced brackets within the container and pivotally secured to the back portion. The brackets are adapted to securely support a Sierra-type cup in a horizontal position during use, and pivot downwardly against the back portion when not in use or upon disassembly of the stove. The top portion provides a table surface and protects the cooking vessels from insects and falling debris, or it may be pivoted upwardly to allow access to the interior of the stove.

  • Patent number: 4192284
Abstract: A portable stove of the type fuelled from a replaceable pressurized combustible gas cartridge which is secured inside a cover member supporting a burner head and having means for connecting the burner head to the replaceable cartridge. A pair of covers, which telescopically fit one into the other have the dual function of serving separately as saucepans or in co-operation as an expandible housing for storing the stove, the covers being selectively telescopable to relatively greater or lesser extents, respectively to store the stove assembled or alternatively disassembled. The stove has arms which are shaped so as to provide, when the arms are extended, upstanding portions which are inscribed in a circle whose diameter is greater than the external diameters of the covers.

  • Patent number: 4177790
Abstract: Three wire leg members are attached to a relatively small hub member and are movable between a folded position in which all three leg members are relatively together and an in use position in which the three leg members are substantially equally spaced apart and extend radially outwardly from the hub member. A gas burner unit is received within an upwardly directed recess formed in the hub member and includes an upwardly directed burner head. The wire leg members have lower portions restable on a support surface and upper portions providing a pan support at a level above the burner head. A flexible hose extends from the burner unit to a control valve and adaptor assembly attachable to the top of a can of butane gas. The control valve includes a knob and means controlled by rotation of the knob for moving a depressable member which is a part of an outlet valve built into the can, for both turning the gas flow on and off and regulating its flow rate.

  • Patent number: 4164930
Abstract: A compact cooking stove including a combustion area partially surrounded by a wind screen having a side opening which faces the wind to direct air to the burning fuel. An exhaust opening is formed adjacent a cooking pan placed at the top of the wind screen so that hot exhaust gases from the burning fuel pass upwardly toward the pan. In a first embodiment heat is supplied by a generally cylindrical burner plate including a recessed, central portion forming an alcohol fuel dish surrounded by a fairly broad rim. A plurality of pot-supporting tabs project upwardly from circumferentially spaced points about the rim to support a cooking pan above the fuel dish and rim. Heat from the burning fuel imparted to the bottom of the pan is radiated to the rim of the burner plate to heat the fuel in the fuel dish in order to promote vaporization of the fuel which increases the heat generated by the stove.
