  • Patent number: 5121738
Abstract: A heat radiating briquette for a cooking grill is formed of a suitable ceramic refractory or other material to have a rectilinear, flat base, a pyramid upstanding from the base and a perimetric trough encompassing the base of the pyramid. Each face of the pyramid is provided with a series of grooves extending from the apex to the base of the pyramid and communicating with the trough. A multiplicity of like briquettes are to be arranged over the surface of a supporting grate spaced below with their apices pointed upwardly toward the food support grill and spaced above the heat source of the food grill. The side edges of adjacent briquettes on the grate are abutting so as to substantially prevent inadvertent seepage of food renderings to the heat source. Renderings from food cooking on the food supporting grill impinge on the briquettes and flow downwardly along the grooves to collect in the trough.

  • Patent number: 5117747
Abstract: A broiler having a cabinet with spaced burners therein and grill sections above the burners. Inverted V-shaped radiants above the burners direct radiant heat outwardly and upwardly onto the grill sections. Deflector members above the radiants deflect convected heat passing around the radiants also outwardly onto the grill sections. Baffle elements directly over the deflector members and located between the grill sections prevent greases, etc. from dripping onto the deflector elements. An inclined drip pan is water cooled to prevent greases, etc. dropping from meat on the grill sections from burning and consequent smoking.

  • Patent number: 5085203
Abstract: In barbecuing, food generally sticks to a fixed grill rack. This invention provides means for keeping the food "unstuck" while cooling and this is achieved by moving two adjacently disposed grilling racks, one having a fixed elevation relative to the underlying coals, the other relatively movable from a plane beneath that of the fixed rack to a plane above the fixed rack, thereby causing the food to move between movable rack and fixed rack, keeping the food "unstuck".

  • Patent number: 5033449
Abstract: The electronic grill control employs a microprocessor-based circuit which monitors cooking temperature, cooking time, fuel level and the presence or absence of flame. The fuel level may be displayed alternately as a percentage or fraction of the full tank capacity or in terms of the burning time remaining in the tank. A dual electrode ignition circuit eliminates noise problems in the microprocessor circuitry by establishing the appropriate sparking voltage between the two electrodes instead of between a single electrode and the casting ground. A fuel presence sensor comprising one of the two electrodes measures resistance or conductance of the ionized gases within the flame to provide the microprocessor with an indication that the flame has failed to ignite or has blown out. All information is displayed on an alphanumeric display with audible alarms provided for certain conditions.

Abstract: A universal food holder for a barbecue grill includes a generally rectrangular frame (32) that has opposite sides (34) and opposite ends (36) with opposite sides having slots (46) therein for receiving opposite ends of food support elements. The food support elements (72, 82) are configured to provide a cradle for the food product that is being cooked and have opposite ends received into the slots in the side frame member. The food support elements can take a variety of configurations to suit the desires of the food which is being cooked but all are designed to be usable with the same frame. The side frame members are reinforced by vertical flanges (44) while the end frame members are likewise reinforced (52) and defined support ledges for food products. Also, the end members or pieces have apertures (58) therein which receive opposite ends of support bars which are designed to support a drip pan below the food support articles.

  • Patent number: 4940040
Abstract: An adjustable oven for mass cooking of food products comprising an essentially sealed enclosure having a conveyor received therethrough for conveying food through the oven. A heated gaseous cooking medium is applied to the food product during conveyance through the oven by impingement of the cooking medium at high velocity through spaced duct fingers disposed above and below the conveyor system. The gaseous cooking medium is heated and circulated through the oven at high velocity and subsequently recirculated for continuous cooking of food products in the oven. The cooking oven enables optimization of the cooking process by allowing at least certain of the duct fingers to be vertically adjustable relative to the food product so as to maximize heat transfer therefrom for any particular food product.

Abstract: An adjustable mixing pipe for a gas-range including a flexible outer pipe, a first inner pipe and a second inner pipe. The flexible outer pipe has a first end communicated to a burner and is fastened to a frame of the burner. The flexible outer pipe further has a straight portion at a second end thereof with a first slot formed on a periphery of the straight portion. The first inner pipe is retractably received within the second end of the outer pipe and is fastened in the outer pipe by means of a first fastening spring provided in the first slot. The first inner pipe is slidable lengthwise in the outer pipe when the first fastening spring is pressed to be loosened. A second slot is formed on a periphery of the first inner pipe at a second end thereof. The second inner pipe is retractably received within the second end of the first inner pipe and is fastened in the first inner pipe by means of a second fastening spring provided in the second slot.

  • Patent number: 4930491
Abstract: A cooking grill designed to overlie a conventional outdoor barbecue is disclosed having a portable, unitary cooking surface that includes both a griddle section and a charbroil section to allow for the simultaneous and efficient frying and charbroiling of food over the barbecue. Preferably, depending arms are attached to the underside of the unitary cooking surface and are spaced to support the surface when removed from the barbecue such that the surface may be used to serve cooked food. The downwardly depending arms are also located and sized to prevent lateral movement of the cooking surface relative to the conventional barbecue when the surface overlies the barbecue. Additional features of the portable grill include an upwardly extending circumferential lip about each of the griddle section and the charbroil section to facilitate the retention of food on the cooking surface and a unique detachably connectable handle means for moving the cooking surface.

  • Patent number: 4930489
Abstract: This invention is directed to a flame switchable gas burning device, adapted to be mounted or attached within the oven cavity of a gas stove, which provides an improved gas stove having control of the flame switching air and the convection cooking air. Such control is achieved by providing a shunt air path which may have one or more controlled dampers and a blower with variable and controllable speed. In another embodiment the combustion gases and the cooking air are kept separate by incorporation of a counterflow heat exchanger making the device indirect fired. In the indirect fired embodiment steam may be controllably introduced into the oven cavity to further speed the baking/cooking time. The improved gas oven can, within the one oven cavity, operate in the broil, bake, steam cook, and self-clean mode without the need for multiple burners or multiple oven cavities and without the need for manually operated baffles or dampers.

  • Patent number: 4919116
Abstract: A gas burner element includes a diffusion chamber and a plurality of burner arms extending from the chamber, the chamber and the arms having a plurality of holes for flowing gas therethrough. A support member is received in the underside of each of the arms for adjustably mounting the element in a spaced relationship from a burner kettle and for maintaining the relationship when mounting is complete. Each support member includes an upper, generally vertical shaft threadably engaged to its associated arm and a lower foot portion disposed radially to the shaft. The spaced relationship between the burner kettle and the burner element are adjustable by rotating the support member in one direction or another, thereby extending or retracting a support member with respect to its related burner arm.

The sections are held at a desired telescopic extension by an adjustable seam carried by the inner section of the assembly, the seam being effective to circumferentially close the inner section while permitting limited radial contraction thereof. The inner section can thus be biased outwardly against the outer section of the assembly for holding the sections at a desired extended position.
