Patent number: 7806345Abstract: In an in-wall heater, in which control equipment 11, 12 is disposed in a side space 10 on one lateral side of a combustion housing 2 within an outer case 1 and an exhaust duct 15 is disposed in a side space 13 on the other lateral side of the combustion housing 2, the cooling performance of each of the side spaces is increased and noise due to a sucked-in sound of room air can be reduced. In a side plate portion of the outer case 1 on both lateral sides, an air intake opening 7, which is vertically long, is provided in a position in a front side portion exposed to a front of a room wall. Each side space 10, 13 within the outer case 1 is formed in a ventilation flue on the suction side where the room air from each of the air intake openings 7 is conducted into the warm air fan 9.Type: GrantFiled: December 12, 2005Date of Patent: October 5, 2010Assignees: Rinnai Corporation, Rinnai New Zealand Ltd.Inventors: Ikuo Tsunekawa, Minoru Oguri, Satoshi Kaneiwa, Brian Smith, Gregory Brinsden

Patent number: 7168427Abstract: An air filtration and sterilization system for removing airborne contaminants from air circulated through an air plenum system of a fireplace. Air filtration systems may include particulate, chemical, and ion filtration systems to filter the air. Air sterilization may include ultraviolet, ozone, germicidal coating, and channeled system of ducts systems to sterilize the air. Systems may be used individually or in combination. In addition, optional components, including a warning sensor for indicating when to replace a filter, an automatic initiation sensor for activating and stopping filtration and sterilization, and an air enhancement system for introducing desirable materials into the air, may be provided.Type: GrantFiled: May 17, 2004Date of Patent: January 30, 2007Assignee: HNI Technologies Inc.Inventors: Thomas J. Bachinski, Gary Lee Butler

Patent number: 5683578Abstract: An apparatus for controlling and filtering the flow or viscous fluid in a material melting and dispensing device is disclosed. The apparatus includes a rotatable valve assembly having a filter plate and a flow stoppage plate. Rotation of the valve alternately allows or halts the flow of viscous fluid. The convenient ability to block the flow of viscous fluid such as hot melt adhesive at a point immediately downstream of a hopper or material melt space facilitates repair, maintenance, or removal of other downstream elements such as a pump without the need for draining the hopper, while avoiding excessive spillage of hot melt adhesive.Type: GrantFiled: October 6, 1995Date of Patent: November 4, 1997Assignee: Illinois Tool Works Inc.Inventors: Jon C. Patent number: 5566667Abstract: This invention discloses a filter-and-fan assembly that can be installed into new fireplaces or retrofitted into existing fireplaces, for filtering dust and smoke out of the hot exhaust gases that are created when wood is burned in fireplaces. This filter assembly is provided with a mechanism that can move the filter out of the flue channel (i.e., the chimney or other exhaust outlet) if the filter becomes clogged by creosote and/or smoke particles. If desired, the mechanism that moves the filter out of the flue path can be automated under the control of a device such as an electronic smoke detector mounted in front of the fireplace, above the fireplace opening. Alternately, a thin filter-paper type of filtering element can be continuously scrolled through the flue channel. A rotating fan blade can be provided directly above the filter element, to ensure that exhaust gases are actively drawn up through the filter.Type: GrantFiled: July 24, 1995Date of Patent: October 22, 1996Inventor: Jennifer Cox

Patent number: 5144941Abstract: A toxic gas exhaust suppression-type combustion system burns a hydrocarbon-based fuel and comprises, an incomplete combustion section for causing incomplete combustion by supplying the fuel and a small amount of air, a solid component removing section, connected to said incomplete combustion section, for collecting and removing a solid component, such as soot, within an unburned gas generated by said incomplete combustion section, and a complete combustion section for perfectly burning a remaining unburned gas by supplying a sufficient amount of air, the remaining unburned gas being obtained by removing the solid component from the unburned gas generated by said incomplete combustion section by flowing the unburned gas through said solid component removing section.Type: GrantFiled: March 29, 1991Date of Patent: September 8, 1992Assignee: Kabushiki Kaisha ToshibaInventors: Toshihiko Saito, Kazuo Saito
