  • Patent number: 10309656
Abstract: A fireplace system can comprise a firebox and a heat exchanger. The heat exchanger may be in fluid communication with ambient air and may comprise an inlet configured to draw air into the front of the heat exchanger. Operation of a fireplace system comprising a heat exchanger may produce airflow through the heat exchanger by natural convection. The airflow through the heat exchanger may reduce heat transmission from the firebox and the fireplace system.

  • Patent number: 10054327
Abstract: An HVAC controller may be controlled in response to a natural language audio message that is not recognizable by the HVAC controller as a command, where the natural language audio message is translated into a command recognizable by the HVAC controller. The HVAC controller may be a thermostat including a housing that houses a temperature sensor, a microphone, and a controller. The controller may identify a trigger phrase in an audio stream provided by the microphone. In response to identifying the trigger phrase, the controller initiates processing of the audio stream to identify a command following the trigger phrase and to generate a command understandable by the thermostat that instructs the controller to perform the identified command. The controller then executes the generated command understandable by the thermostat. A user may communicate with the thermostat via the microphone of the thermostat and/or a remote device having a microphone.

The first panel is configured to extend laterally along the lateral dimension, and, a rear end of the first panel, nearest to the burner assembly, includes a first trough having a vertical wall with a plurality of first slots therein. The linear comprises a second panel configured to be located behind the burner assembly in the box. The second panel is configured to extend laterally along the lateral dimension, and a front end of the second panel, nearest to the burner assembly, includes a second trough having another vertical wall with a plurality of second slots therein. The first and second slots permit secondary air flow there-through.

Abstract: A liquid hydrocarbon or bioethanol heating appliance (10), typically and non critically shaped as a movable fireplace with parallelepiped configuration, comprises a base (16), opposite side bands (12) with vertical development and a top connection panel (14) extended crosswise. The base is provided with an opening (20) on the exposed top front, which can be screened with movable separators (32) and incorporates a tank (22) and a combustion chamber or burner (24) connected to the tank by a conduit (26). The appliance comprises a valve or solenoid valve (30) or (42) provided with or combined to means that detect the fuel level in the burner (24) and temporarily activate the same valves for allowing the passage of the amount of fuel required for restoring a given level in said burner.

Abstract: An improved fire grate may provide fresh oxygen rich air to a secondary combustion zone, created by the improved fire grate, of a combustion chamber where a combustion gas stream is typically oxygen starved assisting in the burning process of incompletely burned particulates and reducing other harmful emissions. A baffle plate may be introduced in the secondary combustion zone to increase a combustion chamber temperature, encourage mixing of oxygen starved air with oxygen rich air and increase a residence time of the combustion gas within the combustion chamber. These aspects of the baffle plate promote more efficient burning of the biomass/fuel. Additionally, log lighter(s) may be disposed in the secondary combustion zone to increase a temperature of the combustion chamber for the purposes of reducing harmful emissions. The improved fire grate may be horizontally and vertically adjusted to fit within different sized fireplace combustion chambers.

Abstract: An unvented gas fireplace in which air flow through a dosed combustion chamber is controlled by means of a restriction in the air flow path through an outer plenum chamber surrounding the combustion chamber, causing a pressure differential between the plenum and combustion chamber, forcing air from the plenum into the combustion chamber, where it is combusted and mixed with the cool air that has passed the restriction in the plenum, before the air mixture is exhausted into the surrounding room or area. A diverter selects between exhausting the heated air in the same or the opposite side as the air intake. The unit may be used as an outdoor stand-alone fireplace.

  • Patent number: 8166965
Abstract: The invention provides an insert assembly to convert an existing fireplace hearth into a gas burning fireplace and a method for installing the insert assembly while conveying the appearance of a wood burning fireplace. The insert assembly comprises legs removably attachable to the base of the firebox for allowing the insert to be installed higher into the hearth. The inner walls of the firebox are colored so as to camouflage the structure of the assembly in the hearth and a decorative fender mimics a wood burning grill. Where the insert includes a heat exchanger, a guide plate is provided at the top of the insert to ensure that air exiting the heat exchange outlet at the top of the insert is directed into the room.

Abstract: A gas burner assembly includes a first sheet, a second sheet, and a conduit. The first sheet has an inner face, an outer face, an upper portion, and a lower portion. The second sheet also has an inner face, an outer face, an upper portion and a lower portion. The first and second sheets are secured relative to one another such that the first and second sheets are separated by a gap that defines a manifold between the inner faces of the first and second sheets with an elongate opening between the upper portions of the first and second sheets, the opening forming an outlet from the manifold. The conduit is in communication with the manifold, the conduit being adapted for connection to a source of gas.
