Fluid Fuel Patents (Class 126/512)
  • Patent number: 4886445
Abstract: A gas burning artificial log assembly includes an artificial log set, a gas burner and andirons for support of the artificial logs. Each of the artificial logs has a front face and a different rear face and can be reversed so as to change the appearance of the artificial log set. The faces of the logs can simulate different wood types or can have a partially-burned appearance. The artificial logs are shaped to define a combustion chamber that promotes complete gas combustion and provides a realistic-appearing gas flame. The gas burner includes a burner pan and a T-shaped manifold that define a pair of adjustable-width rear gas exit slots for producing a rear flame between the logs and further define a front gas exit slot for producing a front flame. The exit slots can be adjusted in width to insure complete combustion for different gas type such as propane and natural gas. The andirons, the gas burner and the artificial logs are keyed to insure proper alignment.

  • Patent number: 4883043
Abstract: The present invention relates to a gas-fired artificial log fireplace assembly, and more particularly to a gas fireplace assembly which visually simulates, in a realistic fashion, a fire in a fireplace stacked with horizontally disposed artificial logs, and which at the same time supplies substantial space heat to the surrounding room environment.

  • Patent number: 4838240
Abstract: A gas burner assembly for a fireplace is shown. The assembly is operative to produce a flickering yellow flame pattern which closely resembles to that produced by a natural wood log fire, yet there is virtually no formation of carbon monoxide gas in the ignition. The assembly generally comprises four artificial logs arranged in a predetermined spaced relationship to a gas burner. The gas burner consists of a rectangular opened top casing having distribution means for emitting a gas and air mixture through its top. The artificial log comprises a flexible metal tube wrapped with a ceramic fibre blanked which is impregnated with a colloidal compound and thermally cured. The surface of the log is textured and painted to simulate the appearance of a natural wood log. Flame deflectors are provided either above or in the burner to baffle direct flame impingement on the logs so that the flames rise to a relatively high level above the logs to provide a full visibility of the flame in the fireplace.

  • Patent number: 4834064
Abstract: A combustion apparatus including a housing formed with an opening, a combustion tube provided in the opening, a reflector disposed rearwardly of the combustion tube, and at least one heat shielding plate disposed between the combustion tube and a top plate of the housing such that at least one gap for allowing convected air to flow therethrough is defined between the heat shielding plate and the top plate. Furthermore, a front end of the heat shielding plate is projected forwardly of the top plate.

  • Patent number: 4828485
Abstract: A fireplace gas burner apparatus includes a posted gas burner pipe and structure defining flame chute at one side of the pipe plus a tray for emberizing material in the lateral path of flames from the flame chute, a log being supported to extend above the lateral path of flames directed toward the emberizing material. A flame interceptor may be utilized above the pipe.

  • Patent number: 4793322
Abstract: A zero clearance fireplace of the type to be installed inside of a building against or near an outside wall is provided. The box shaped fireplace is provided with four substantially vertical walls, a top wall and a bottom wall. The bottom wall comprises an inner plenum and an outer plenum below the combustion chamber. The rear wall comprises an outer plenum connected to the bottom plenum of the bottom wall, a middle plenum connected to a source of fresh air and connected to the inner plenum of the bottom wall and an inner plenum which is connected to a horizontal exhaust pipe which is inserted through the outside wall and is connected to the combustion chamber through a baffle arrangement.
