  • Patent number: 8230849
Abstract: An improved wall thimble as part of a venting apparatus for a heating appliance. Dual functionality is provided in a single wall thimble device by having a vent path for exhausting combustion by-products, and a separate air inlet path to draw in combustion air for use by the heating appliance. The wall thimble is preferably formed as a two-cylindrical part housing such that a first portion can be inserted into a second portion. When a smaller exhaust pipe is routed through the two-part housing, an annular region is formed between the exhaust pipe and the walls of the housing. A first air vent is formed in the first portion to draw combustion air into the annular region from outside. A second air vent is formed in the second portion to route the combustion air from the annular region out through the second air vent to be coupled with the combustion air inlet. Abstract: A wall thimble for use with a heating appliance. Dual functionality is provided in a single wall thimble device by having a vent path for exhausting combustion by-products, and a separate air inlet path to draw in outside combustion air for use by the heating appliance. The wall thimble is formed as a two-part housing such that a first portion can be inserted into a second portion. When an exhaust pipe is routed through end plates on the housing portions, a closed region is formed between the exhaust pipe and the housing portions. A first air vent is formed in the first or outside portion to draw combustion air into the closed region from outside. A second air vent is formed in the second or inside portion to route the combustion air from the closed region to an opening in the housing where a combustion air inlet pipe is connected.

  • Patent number: 7665457
Abstract: An improved wall thimble is useful as part of a venting apparatus for a direct vent heating appliance. Dual functionality is provided in a single wall thimble device by having a vent path for exhausting combustion by-products, and a separate air inlet path to draw in outside combustion air for use by the heating appliance. The wall thimble is formed as a two-part housing such that a first cylindrical portion can be inserted into a second cylindrical portion. When a smaller diameter exhaust pipe is routed through the cylindrical portions, an annular region is formed between the exhaust pipe and the cylindrical portions. A first air vent is formed in the first cylindrical portion to draw combustion air into the annular region from outside. A second air vent is formed in the second cylindrical portion to route the combustion air from the annular region to an opening in the housing where a combustion air inlet pipe is connected.

  • Patent number: 6325060
Abstract: A stack-equipped far infrared space heater capable of permitting a space of a relatively large volume through which hot air for fan forced space heating fails to carry well to be satisfactorily heated by far infrared rays. The space heater includes a combustion cylinder mounted on a burner arranged in a housing, a plurality of heat-exchange pipes arranged on the combustion cylinder, and a cylindrical exhaust structure arranged on the heat-exchange pipes. A guard is arranged on the housing so as to surround the combustion cylinder and cylindrical exhaust structure and mounted thereon with a top plate, which is formed at a central portion thereof with an opening. An upper wall of the cylindrical exhaust structure is fitted in the opening and securely fixed to the top plate through fixtures. A stack is connected to a side wall of the cylindrical exhaust structure so as to upwardly extend therefrom through a bent cylinder.

  • Patent number: 4896655
Abstract: A portable heating system operable in three modes; an under-blanket heating mode, a tent heating mode, and a food heating mode. In the under-blanket heating mode, one or more users cover themselves and the basic heater (2) with a light foil-type blanket (68). Air, warmed by the heater, spreads under the blanket thereby enveloping the users so that they are comfortably warm. An adjustable canopy frame (40), in concert with a heat guard (4) enclosing a heat source (6), promotes gaseous circulation under the blanket without hazard. A thermostat (17) automatically maintains the temperature at a safe level. In a tent heating mode, the invention includes an exhaust guide for guiding combustion gases to the outside of a tent via the tent entry. Means are provided for drawing air from outside the tent into the heater for supporting combustion. Means are also provided for the system to adapt to rough or uneven terrain for high stability.

  • Patent number: 4774931
Abstract: A portable heater comprising a double-wall vessel which forms a combustion chamber and encloses a suitable fuel. Air passages provide an airflow through the vessel for supporting combustion. Also included are endless conduits which entrap displaced fuel to prevent it from escaping from the heater through the air passages. Thus, fuel is prevented from escaping from the heater in all positions of the same in the event that the heater is dropped or otherwise upset. A set of cooling fins, encircling a fuel holder, cool the fuel to help maintain an even burn rate. The heater further includes an adjustable flame attenuator for selective heat control. At a low heat setting the invention may be used as a personal or close contact heater wherein an outer wall serves as a guard for preventing contact burns. A modified embodiment of the heater, for use in a tent, includes an air intake tube and a fuel for exchanging gases with the outside of the tent.

  • Patent number: 4385621
Abstract: An oil stove for burning both waste oil and heating oil has a primary combustion chamber for the initial combustion of fuel and an adjoining secondary combustion chamber of larger diameter in which combustion is completed. The two chambers are located in a housing and a fan is arranged at the bottom of the housing for delivering air to the inside of the housing. The air is warmed by its passage between the walls of the housing and the primary and secondary combustion chambers and is discharged for heating purposes via louvres at the top of the housing. The primary combustion chamber is defined by a pot having air inlet openings in its sidewall, a substantially closed base, a burner ring located towards the upper end of the pot and a closed jacket surrounding the pot spaced from said sidewall. In operation a pool of fuel is formed at the base of the pot and a part of the fan delivery is ducted to the space between the closed jacket and the pot for supplying air for the combustion process.

  • Patent number: 3990428
Abstract: A pot-type burner is equipped with baffle plates for establishing recirculation zones within the burner for efficiently mixing air and gas in a conventional manner. The burner construction is improved by removing the combustion ring, and in its stead adding an annular dome. This initiates sonic pulsations, sustained within a heat exchanger housing which has critical dimensions relative to the burner parts. The pulsations produce improved combustion.
