This principal insert has a unique pattern of slots the bounding edges of which are flanged and a portion of which are oriented in directions at right angles to other of said slots to lend both strength and stress accommodation to the top of the housing.

  • Patent number: 4469084
Abstract: An apparatus for both improving the heat distribution throughout a room from a portable kerosene heater and for collecting undesirable emissions resulting from the burning of the kerosene, includes a base adapted to be mounted on the top of the heater, the base supporting a vertically extending shaft on which is mounted a heat-driven fan formed of either paper or metal, and a disposable disk mounted a spaced distance above the fan on the same shaft, the disk serving as a collector for the undesirable emissions. When the device is placed on an operating kerosene heater, the rising hot air and gases from the heater cause the fan to rotate, which in turn causes emissions from the burning fuel to move upwardly in a more or less cylindrical path. As the products of combustion move upwardly, certain emissions therein such as soot, oily vapors, etc. deposit or condense onto the surface of the spinner and disposable disk.

Abstract: A liquid fuel burning device suitable for kerosene stove, kerosene kitchen range or the like. The device has an inner and outer flame sleeves each having a multiplicity of pores and a wick interposed between these sleeves. The wick has a fuel evaporating portion projectable into the annular burning space formed between these sleeves. At least one of these sleeves is provided with at least one vertical row of air pores in its portion facing the fuel evaporating portion of the wick. Above the region of vertical row of air pores, formed is a horizontal row of air pores having a multiplicity of pores arranged at a higher density than the pores in the other portion of the wall. In the case where the vertical and horizontal rows of air pores are formed in the inner flame sleeve, a partition plate having apertures is attached to the inner side of the inner flame sleeve at a level above the horizontal row or air pores.

Abstract: An improved oil stove of the type including a cylindrical burning wick adapted to be raised up or lowered as required by actuating a wick control handle is disclosed which includes a stopper slidably secured to the wick control handle and a stopper engagement member to which the stopper comes in engagement as the wick control handle is rotated. The stopper comprises a base plate, an engagement projection and a depress button adapted to be depressed by an operator's finger. The engagement projection is extended from the base plate to the position where it is engaged to the stopper engagement member at its upright bent portion of which upper end face is tapered. As the wick control handle is rotated in such a direction as to lower the wick, the bent portion of the engagement projection abuts against the stopper engagement member and thereby the wick control handle fails to be rotated further.

  • Patent number: 4451228
Abstract: A burner of wick type is disclosed which secures user safety by stopping combustion through an oxygen depletion protection function in the event of an oxygen depletion. When tar is accumulated in the wick, the wick is burnt to clean the tar with the liquid fuel supply cut off, thus burning out the liquid fuel contained in the wick. In the process, the combustion temporarily becomes unstable and a great amount of carbon monoxide is generated, resulting in a state similar to oxygen depletion. In a burner with an oxygen depletion protection function, the combustion is stopped during the wick cleaning, with the result that most of the tar accumulated in the wick remains unburnt, adversely affecting both the fuel absorption characteristic and service life of the wick. This invention is such that the oxygen depletion protection function is not operated during the wick cleaning.

Abstract: A wick assembly for a liquid fuel combustion apparatus is structured by laminating a main wick and an auxiliary wick, and sandwiching a separator of an oil-impermeable material therebetween. By being so structured, the main wick can be made being hardly deteriorated in terms of its calorific value. A material having a large oil containing ability can be selected for the main wick, and distance between the oil level and top of wick can be made shorter. Fire-spreading time of the wick assembly after a lapse of long service period is still as short as that at the beginning of the service, and generation of an objectional odor and carbon monoxide at the time of ignition can be suppressed constantly.

The improvement comprises that a thin sheet body from heat resistance fibers is attached at least to a part of the combustion section and that the combustion section is separably coupled to the liquid fuel supplying section. The thin sheet body attached to the combustion section reduces the generation of tar on the latter, while the separable coupling between the liquid fuel supplying section and the combustion section permits an easy renewal of the combustion section solely when the tar deposition on the latter has become heavy.
