  • Publication number: 20100043810
Abstract: An improved packaging for rolling papers used in roll your own smoking articles that includes a single member having an inner and an outer surface, the member being folded over towards the inner surface at each end to form a substantially parallel portion at each end and a generally open interior. The unfolded portion of the member extends along a path between the ends. The path includes at least one substantially straight planar portion and a semi-cylindrical portion. The pair of substantially parallel portions are configured such that a plurality of rolling papers may be removably packaged between the pair of substantially parallel portions. The plurality of rolling papers at least initially retains a curved shape after removal from the improved packaging such that a tobacco product may be placed in the curved portion.

  • Patent number: 5678576
Abstract: An apparatus for treating environmental tobacco smoke (ETS) using a high efficiency particle air filter (HEPA) is provided. The apparatus has a pleated HEPA filter positioned in the top of a housing for filtering ETS particle contaminants. Layers of granulated activated alumina and layers of granulated activated carbon are also positioned in the top of the housing to filter gas-phase ETS contaminants. The apparatus offers substantial improvements over commercially available "smokeless ashtrays" by more effectively 1) directing ETS smoke over filter components, 2) removing ETS particle contaminants and 3) removing ETS gas-phase contaminants. The apparatus also indicates the effectiveness of the treatment process and allows users to increase the effectiveness of the treatment process.

  • Patent number: 4452258
Abstract: A pipe smoker's container or case comprises a container having secured therein holding means for securing detachable pipe bowls from detachable smoker's pipes of the type having a pipe stem detachable from or adapted to be attached to the pipe bowl. The pipe bowls each are provided with a tobacco or other smoking material receiving chamber open at both ends and adapted to be secured within the container in position perpendicular to the bottom of the container and in secure engagement with means secured to or provided by the interior of the container lid, whereby the pipe bowls are secured and sealed while carried in the container. A bottom draw-hole of the bowl is adapted to be closed by means carried by the bottom of the container. The tobacco or other smoking material receiving chamber in the bowl may be prefilled with tobacco or other smoking material and the prepacked tobacco or other smoking material prevented by the holding means and lid means from spillage during carrying of the container.

  • Patent number: 4362169
Abstract: A smoker's pipe of the dry bowl type is disclosed which has a ceramic inner bowl secured at its lower end to the lower end of an outer plastic bowl in a manner to space the bowls radially apart for the establishment of a cooling air space between the bowls. The pipe has a stem provided with an auxiliary fresh air inlet that is in communication with one end of a horizontal longitudinally extending passageway located in the bottom of the inner bowl below the combustion chamber and in communication therewith. The other end of the passageway is in communication with a cooling chamber to communicate smoke from the inner bowl to a mouthpiece fitted in the outer end of the stem. The mouthpiece has an insert cluster containing a smoke passage tube and a liquid contaminant tube, the latter of which is received within the open end of a liquid absorber mounted on a plug that is frictionally fitted in a bore formed in the front end of the stem below the bowl assembly.

  • Patent number: 4210160
Abstract: An anti-pollution combustion device has a bowl in the interior of which is located, above the connection between the bowl and stem, a perforated metal disc so that the tobacco rests on the same. The outside of the bowl is formed with circumferentially extending cooling ribs. The inside of the bowl is lined with a material which prevents the wood of the bowl from charring. In the smoke passage of the stem is incorporated a filter which can be changed when it is saturated with contaminants. Near the rear end of the stem there is provided a trap with a reservoir in which liquid is trapped and accumulated so that from time to time it can be discharged from the reservoir. The rear end of the stem is provided with a mouthpiece having an annular member projecting transversely of the elongation of the stem and large enough to securely retain the mouthpiece between the teeth of a user, even if the user should have false teeth.
