  • Patent number: 10072363
Abstract: The invention relates to a cooling drum for cooling a thread plug in texturing process. The cooling drum comprises a drivable cooling jacket, on the circumference of which at least one air-permeable guide track is designed for guiding the thread plug. A suction chamber is provided in the interior of the cooling jacket, which chamber is connected via a suction connection to a vacuum source. In this way, a stationary shielding means is provided, which is arranged between the cooling jacket and the suction chamber. In order to produce a suction flow which is as targeted as possible and affected by little loss, according to the invention, the shielding means is formed by a closed sealing jacket which is placed substantially coaxially spaced apart with the cooling jacket and has an air slot in the region of the guide track.

  • Patent number: 7690383
Abstract: A cigarette making apparatus includes a cooling-water passage which allows a coolant to circulate along a flavoring-material supply path which connects an application nozzle for applying a flavoring material to a wrapping-paper web and a pump for supplying the flavoring material to the application nozzle, to thereby cool the flavoring material. A cooling unit controls the temperature of the coolant supplied to the cooling-water passage. Specifically, the cooling unit controls the temperature of the flavoring material by selectively activating a first control system for detecting the temperature of the coolant supplied to the cooling-water passage and controlling the temperature of the coolant, and a second control system for detecting the temperature of the flavoring material supplied to the application nozzle and controlling the temperature of the coolant.

  • Patent number: 7325547
Abstract: A curling device for a filter tip attachment comprises at least one blade-like element offered to a continuous strip of paper material at a selected contact zone in such a way as to deform the material as it advances, so that single tipping papers separated from the strip by a cutting unit of the attachment are given a curved profile and as a result more easily wrapped around and affixed to the assembled filters and cigarette sticks when these are joined together; the curling device also comprises a delivery system by which the contact zone is flooded with a cushioning fluid designed to favor a smooth sliding contact between the curling element and the running strip, and at the same time equalize the tensions in the strip preceding and following the contact zone.

  • Patent number: 6964230
Abstract: An improved method of and an improved apparatus for detecting and correcting unsatisfactory patterns of adhesive is applied to a running web of paper or the like in a tobacco processing machine by a cyclically operated paster. A linear scanning camera is employed to take pictures of groups of at least some of the patterns which are applied during successive cycles of the paster, and such pictures are displayed and compared with a reference image of satisfactory patterns and preferably also with additional reference images. The results of comparison are relied upon for the making of corrections, for example, by changing the operation of the paster and/or by changing the direction of advancement of the web between the paster and the camera.

  • Patent number: 6705325
Abstract: A cigarette making machine for manufacturing of a cigarette with burn rate modification is described. The cigarette maker allows for mounting of a special bobbin of material which is different in size and width of a normal wrapper bobbin and feeds both the outer wrap web of material and narrower inner wrap web of material to the garniture. A slitting device may be utilized to cut the inner wrap web of material into a plurality of individual strips which are placed adjacent the outer wrap web of material in the garniture area of the maker. The inner wrap web of material may derive from a transverse wound bobbin in order to store large linear amounts of inner wrap web material.

  • Patent number: 6543457
Abstract: The application of adhesive to selected non-perforated sections of one side of a running web of tipping paper in a filter cigarette making machine is carried out in such a way that the adhesive is invariably applied only to the non-perforated sections which alternate with perforated sections. To this end, the speed of advancement of the web along its path past an adhesive applicator and thereupon through a severing unit (which subdivides the web into a file of successive uniting bands to be wrapped around filter mouthpieces and plain cigarettes) is temporarily altered when a comparison of first signals denoting detection of successive perforated sections of the running web with second signals denoting the frequency of severing of the web in the severing unit indicates the need for a temporary change of the speed of the web upstream of the adhesive applicator. The latter is installed at a fixed distance from the severing unit.

  • Patent number: 5735292
Abstract: A method and device for the production of filter tip bands for ventilated cigarettes, according to which a continuous strip is advanced along a pre-set feed path, an adhesive substance is applied to the strip using a gumming device, defining on the strip itself a periodic succession of gummed areas alternated with non-gummed areas and the strip is cut using a cutting device according to transversal lines at pre-set intervals defined by the gummed areas to produce the bands. A control device controls the timing between the gumming device and the cutting device. The timing is compared with a pre-set value and is corrected, using a correction device in order to eliminate any variation of the pre-set value.

  • Patent number: 3978969
Abstract: In order to feed a stream of filter rods forward at regularly spaced intervals a substantially continuous stream of rods is fed to a pair of opposed belts which grip the sides of the rods and accelerate them so as to space them apart. The spaced apart rods may then be accurately fed forward by a timing device in the form of a wheel having extending fingers which engage behind the rods and feed them forward at a controlled speed. A second pair of belts may be positioned between the first pair of belts and the timing device, these belts gripping the rods at the top and bottom. The continuous stream of rods is preferably formed by successively stripping groups of rods axially from a fluted drum.
