  • Patent number: 5038806
Abstract: A flosser has an elongate configuration with a forked arm at one end and an enlarged opposite end for housing a spool of unused dental floss, and a take-up reel for storing the dental floss as it is used. The dental floss is strung from the spool, across the arm, and back to the reel. There is a free knob having a spindle which connects the reel so that the feed knob and reel rotate in unison to reel in the spent floss. There is a cylindrical crown projection at the housing end that mates with the feed knob and encases the spool of unused dental floss. The feed knob and crown projection have a clutch mechanism allowing the feed knob and take-up reel to rotate in only one direction and to frictionally engage and hold the floss at the spool end and to temporarily disengage the floss when the feed knob is rotated to allow a measured amount of fresh floss to unwind from the freely rotatable spool, while simultaneously reeling in a like amount of spent floss into the take-up reel.

  • Patent number: 5029593
Abstract: A device for cleaning teeth is disclosed as having a shaft for containing dental floss and floss holders. Wedge shaped fastening grooves in the floss holders hold the dental floss tightly between the floss holders. In operation, the segment of floss held between the floss holders is useable to clean between teeth.

  • Patent number: 5016661
Abstract: A dental floss container holder and floss dispenser having a housing with a front and back portion. A contoured resilient material made of closed or open cell foam or neoprene for retaining variously shaped dental floss containers and spools. The retaining material is affixed to the interior of the housing. A guide directs floss from the retained container to the exterior of the housing. A cutter is positioned on the exterior of the housing. The housing may be wall mountable.

  • Patent number: 4966176
Abstract: This is concerned with a dental flossing mechanism in the nature of a hand tool which enables the user to easily floss his teeth, to easily change the floss between flossing operations, to easily install a new spool of floss as each spool is exhausted and to maintain a taut section of floss between arms while flossing is taking place primarily due to a novel floating axle floss spool with a ratchet mechanism effect.

  • Patent number: 4934389
Abstract: A dental floss dispenser is disclosed, which may be adapted for insertion into an existing cavity found in pump type tooth paste dispensers, or the dental floss dispenser may be used separately without modification. The dental floss dispenser has a housing formed of a base, a circumferential wall extending from the base, and a cap secured to the circumferential wall. A chamber is thus formed between the base, the circumferential wall and the cap for rotatably receiving a dental flose spool therein. The cap has an aperture therethrough, and a hinged portion which may be raised or lowered; a knife blade is secured to the hinged portion in spaced relation from the aperture, and the dental floss is drawn through the aperture and closely received between the knife blade and the hinged portion, and biased to cut the end of the dental floss.

  • Patent number: 4901742
Abstract: The dental flosser-dispenser includes a pistol-grip shaped handle portion and a bow portion extending therefrom for holding a length of tension of floss between its tip and an anchoring mechanism. A spool of dental floss is provided in the handle and includes a detent system for selectively paying out new floss from the spool and anchoring the spool in place while the device is being used for flossing. An alternate embodiment of the dental floss dispenser includes a pistol-grip shaped handle portion in an elongate neck portion supporting the U-shaped armature. A spool of dental floss is provided in the handle and includes a detent system for selectively paying out new floss from the spool.

  • Patent number: 4796783
Abstract: There is described a Dental Floss Dispenser located in a unique holder capable of acting as a cap for a conventional tube of tooth paste. The cap contains an internal cylindrical member preferably having threads capable of mating with the threads on a tube of tooth paste. The lower end of the internal cylindrical wall has a shoulder and a disc is slipped over the internal wall and over the shoulder in order to hold the disc in a rotatable relationship. Conventional dental floss is located on the disc and is caused to exit through a small hole in the face portion of the cap. The user of the tube of tooth paste thus has a new cap capable of holding a supply of dental floss. The dispenser not only acts as a cap for a tube of tooth paste but also is capable of being inserted in the bottom end of a conventional pump type tooth paste dispenser thereby allowing the user to have a supply of dental floss contained as part of the pump type tooth paste dispenser.

  • Patent number: 4790336
Abstract: A dental floss applicator comprises a fork having a pair of elongated legs projecting from an elongated handle, a container on the handle for storing a supply of dental floss, and a reel on one side of the handle for being rotated to withdraw a continuous string of dental floss under tension from the container and pass the dental floss from the container along the length of one leg, across the distance between the tips of the legs, after which the floss extends along the length of the other leg and is then wound on a rotatable post on the underside of the handle. The reel and post rotate in unison so that as they rotate, the dental floss is continuously fed from the container across the distance between the tips of the legs where the floss is held under tension for use in teeth cleaning. The relative diameter of the post and reel provide a differential tensioning arrangement for applying a controlled tension to the dental floss across the distance between the tips of the legs.
