Flexible Structure Patents (Class 135/125)
  • Patent number: 6276095
Abstract: A support structure including a first and a second upper ring member. The support structure further includes a lower circular foundation of a diameter greater than the diameters of the first and second upper ring members. A plurality of initially straight and elongated structural members extend from each of the upper ring members. Extending from each of the ring members are an equal number of structural members. The structural members extend radially at angular intervals on both the upper and lower rings. Each of the structural members have a first and a second lateral end. The structural members are secured at their first lateral ends to either the first or second upper ring members. The structural members are further secured at their second lateral ends to the lower foundation. Thereafter, the structural members are manipulated to create a lattice formation comprised of S-shaped, elastically-modified structural members.

  • Patent number: 6264219
Abstract: A utility cart is provided which minimizes damage caused by impact with objects, particularly for use on a windy airport tarmac, the cart comprising a frame having main wheels bearing most of the cart's weight, these main wheels being fitted with latch-type brakes. The cart has a top structure, such as a roof, which extends horizontally above the frame, the periphery of which approximates or extends beyond the periphery of the frame. The top structure is normally supported above the cart's frame using three or more laterally collapsible supports for permitting the top structure to be displaced laterally while remaining substantially horizontal so as to minimize energy transfer upon lateral impact of the periphery of the top structure with an object. Each of the preferred collapsible supports comprises a tubular member elastically sandwiched between top and bottom plates mounted to the top structure and frame respectively.

These collapsible structures can be easily and quickly folded and collapsed into a compact configuration. The collapsible structures have at least three foldable frame members, each having a folded and an unfolded orientation. A fabric material substantially covers each frame member to form a panel for each frame member when the frame member is in the unfolded orientation, with the fabric assuming the unfolded orientation of its associated frame member.

  • Patent number: 5676168
Abstract: The present invention is a fast-erecting tent in which several open-ended arcuate interconnect via a single connector. The frame of the tent includes 1) a pair of resilient, planar open-end arcuate sections that form a filiform base loop; 2) a pair of resilent open-end arcuate sections that form a filiform upper loop; 3) a connector which links a terminal end of the first arcuate section of the base loop plus a terminal end of the first arcuate section of the upper loop to the terminal end of the second arcuate section of the base loop plus the terminal end of the second arcuate section of the upper loop; and 4) a segmented, internally biased, arch shaped tubular strut. The ends of the strut are slidably and rotatably connected to the arcuate sections of the base loop. The strut is connected to the arcuate sections of the upper loop by means of a twist clip. The fabric covering is wrapped around and attached to the frame by conventional means. The connector is a sleeve with a through-bore.

  • Patent number: 5592961
Abstract: A portable booth is provided which includes a plurality of vertical sides, a top panel, and a bottom panel attached together to form an enclosure which can be twisted into a compact assembly unit. A first stiffener and second stiffener can be added to the enclosure to provide additional stability to the portable booth. The first and second stiffeners can each be twisted into a compact stiffener unit. Since the side panels can be easily twisted to form a compact assembly unit and the first and second stiffeners can each be twisted to form a compact stiffener unit, the portable booth is easy to assemble and disassemble, and easy to transport.

  • Patent number: 5590674
Abstract: A tent pole comprising first and elongated pole sections. One end portion of the first pole section has cavity and one end portion of the second pole section is receivable in the cavity. A coil spring extends over regions of the end portions of the outer surfaces of the first and second pole sections. The coil spring is coupled to the first and second pole sections so as to resiliently resist axial separation of the pole sections. The coil spring is sufficiently flexible so that the coil spring can be folded to allow the first and second pole sections to be in side-by-side relationship.

  • Patent number: 5560385
Abstract: A collapsible play structure has one or more play modules connected together, each play module comprising at least three foldable frame members, each having a folded and an unfolded orientation. A fabric material substantially covers each frame member to form a side panel for each frame member when the frame member is in the unfolded orientation. Each side panel further comprises at least three sides. The left side of each side panel is connected and hinged to the right side of an adjacent side panel, and the right side of each side panel is connected and hinged to the left side of another adjacent side panel. The bottom side of each side panel is adapted to rest on a supporting surface to support the play module.

  • Patent number: 5533542
Abstract: A camouflage device for military equipment has a disk-shaped connecting element supported on elongated plastically deformable lugs which can be bent inwardly or outwardly to input different appearances to the support structure which is covered by one or more camouflage nets. When different camouflage nets are provided on opposite sides of the support structure, the variation and appearance can be further increased.

  • Patent number: 5482160
Abstract: A golf bag comprised of a frame and a fabric body carried by the frame in a taut disposition thereon. The frame includes an upper annular support member, a lower support member forming the bottom of the golf bag and a plurality of flexible and resilient stays extending between the upper and lower support members in a flexed disposition so as to continuously urge the upper and lower support members axially apart and maintain the fabric body in tension therebetween. The flexible and resilient stays also provide the golf bag with a flexible side support which is comfortable against the body of a person carrying the bag and allows the bag to undergo abuse without the fabric body of the bag losing its shape.

  • Patent number: 5467794
Abstract: A collapsible shade structure includes a plurality of foldable frame members each having a folded and an unfolded orientation. A fabric material is provided for substantially covering the frame members to form a side panel for each frame member, each side panel assuming the unfolded orientation of its associated frame member. Interconnecting portions of the fabric material form a hinge portion between each frame member. Alternatively, frame retaining sleeve portions may be used to interconnect and retain two or more frame members from two or more adjacent side panels and to act as hinge portions. The structure may be folded and stored by folding the side panels and their corresponding frame members on top of each other about the hinge portions to have the side panels and frame members overlying each other.

  • Patent number: 5407291
Abstract: A coupler for use in swivably independently securing the remote ends of a monofilament or wire, which wire is constantly in a cantilever bending motion at its remote end when folded and necessitates a freedom of rotation. The connector itself has a preferably cylindrical body having two tapered elongate nesting pockets which are separated from each other by an interior stop at the mid-portion of the connector cylindrical body. The elongate pockets are characterized by a taper which is dimensioned to receive and friction fittingly engage the remote ends of a wire or monofilament a spaced distance from the central stop of the connector cylindrical body.

  • Patent number: 5404896
Abstract: An easy-to-assemble tent includes supporting poles (10) and a flexible sheet barrier (12) having D-rings (23) attached thereon along pole paths. When the tent is collapsed, the rings along each pole path are slidably stacked along a robe-shaped ring holder (24), and locked thereon by a locking D-ring (22) positioned on top of the stack. Each pole can be easily positioned into all of the rings along a pole path in one step by inserting it into the ring holder, so that the user will not have to thread the poles into the rings one at a time or have to remember the pole paths. When the poles are inserted into the ring holders, the tent can be erected by unlocking the locking ring, bending the poles, and sliding the rings along the poles into position. The tent can also be collapsed and disassembled by sliding and locking the rings onto the ring holders, and removing the poles therefrom.
