Abstract: A micro bleed hole connector for use in intermittent pneumatic compression devices includes a body made of a material that is sturdy, durable and compression resistant. The bleed hole connector resembles industry-standard air tube connectors, and has a micro bleed hose connecting its hollow lumen to the outside, ambient air. In use, the connector is inserted between the air input tube of an intermittent pneumatic compression device and an air supply tube, which is connected to an air pump. The air pump inflates and deflates the intermittent pneumatic compression device, which is placed on a patient's limb. In the event deflation of the compression device is retarded by air pump failure or air supply tube occlusion, the micro bleed hole dissipates air sufficiently to prevent injury to the patient's limb. Air dissipation through the bleed hole during normal operation is minimal and does not impact therapeutic application.

Abstract: A cooling system for internal combustion engines provides directed flows of heated or cooled coolant to various engine components and/or accessories as needed. By providing directed flows, the overall coolant flow volume is reduced from that of conventional cooling systems, allowing for a smaller capacity water pump to be employed which results in a net energy savings for the engine. Further, by reducing the overall coolant flow volume, the hoses and/or galleries required for the directed flows are reduced from those of conventional cooling systems, providing a cost savings and a weight savings. Finally, by preferably employing an impellor type water pump, the expense of an electric water pump and its associated control circuitry can be avoided. A sealing member forms a fluid-tight seal between the plunger and the valve, while a biasing member or spring acts between the valve and the plunger. The plunger is disposed within the first flow path of the valve and is movable between a closed position and an open position when exposed to pressurized fluid. In the closed position, the sealing member forms a seal between the plunger and the valve, preventing fluid communication between the inlet and the outlet, but does not form a seal when the device is in the open position, allowing fluid communication with the outlet. • Patent number: 6698446
Abstract: A check valve with an elongated body and a hole extending from an inlet end to an outlet end. A piston assembly is mounted within the body and can include a piston, a check valve seal and a piston spring. The piston spring biases the piston to a first piston location preventing air from flowing from the inlet toward the outlet end. The check valve seal can be positioned on the piston assembly to seal against either a check valve seat or the inside diameter of the hole to restrict air flow when the piston is in the first piston location. Movement of the piston to a downstream piston location can remove the check valve seal from the check valve seat and/or from the inside diameter of the hole, allowing air to flow from the inlet end toward to outlet end.

  • Patent number: 6575189
Abstract: An automatic valve includes a housing having an inlet passage and a passage to outlet, a linearly movable shaft disposed in the housing having two stops separated by a predetermined distance, a hydraulic unit connected to the housing and to the linearly movable shaft, and a sealing flange having at least one aperture accommodating the linearly movable shaft. The sealing flange being movable on the linearly movable shaft to close and open the passage to outlet through force of one of the stops on the sealing flange, the linearly movable shaft being biased to urge the sealing flange toward the passage to outlet by contact with one of the stops wherein the sealing flange in position to close the passage to outlet from the inlet passage despite limited movement of the linearly movable shaft.

  • Patent number: 6295811
Abstract: This invention relates to a valve device for at least one hydraulic motor adapted to drive a high inertia mass. The device comprises two principal conduits, respectively intended to be connected to the two principal ducts (supply or exhaust) of the motor. It comprises a communication conduit for placing said principal conduits in situation of communication when the fluid pressures in these conduits are substantially equal and for placing said principal conduits in a situation of isolation in which they are isolated from one another when the fluid pressures in these two conduits are different. The device further comprises delaying means adapted to limit the speed of passage between the situation of communication and the situation of isolation. The communication conduit may include a calibrated restriction. Similarly, the delaying means may include calibrated restrictions.

  • Patent number: 6178998
Abstract: A reverse flow prevention apparatus is provided so as to drastically decrease pressure loss without installing an independent pressure regulator mechanism therein. With the reverse flow prevention apparatus, a flow path running along a straight line is provided in an outer box, and is partitioned by a diaphragm into an upstream region, and the downstream of a midstream region. An inner cylindrical body is provided at the center of the diaphragm, integrally therewith, so as to fit slidably into the upstream region of the outer box, an escape valve is provided on the downstream side of the inner cylindrical body in such a way as to be able to freely open and close a valve port provided between the midstream region and the downstream region while the escape valve is energized towards valve opening by the urging of an escape valve spring, and first and second check valves are provided inside the inner cylindrical body and the downstream region of the outer box, respectively.

  • Patent number: 6173730
Abstract: A valve (60) for use in a brake system (10) through which a source (32) of fluid charges an accumulator (24) to a desired fluid pressure level and through which fluid pressure present in a conduit (52) is communicated to a reservoir (33) in the absence of the flow of fluid from the source. The valve (60) has a housing (62) with a bore (64) therein with an entrance port (66) connected to the source of fluid (32), an exit port (68) connected by a flexible conduit (52) to the accumulator (24) and exhaust port (70) connected to the reservoir (33). A sleeve (72) which is located in bore (64) has an internal bore (74) with a first diameter (82) for retaining a first ball (90), a second diameter (80) for retaining a linkage member (94) and a third diameter (86) for retaining a second ball (92). A first spring (93) urges the first ball (90) toward a first seat (84′) formed between the first (82) and second (80) diameters.
