Assembling, Disassembling, Or Removing Cartridge Type Valve (e.g., Insertable And Removable As A Unit, Etc.) Patents (Class 137/315.11)
  • Publication number: 20150122349
Abstract: A retarder control valve assembly and system for controlling speed of rail cars, utilizes cartridge valves carried in a manifold body including piping and pilot control apparatus, but no wearing surfaces, dynamic seals, or moving parts. The cartridge valves are replaceable without replumbing, and include all moving valve elements and dynamic seals. The valves each include a piston controlled poppet carried on a spool movable within a cartridge body to open and close the valve and supported to withstand high side loads. The pressure sensing and feedback to the retarder system controller is at the manifold, in a pressure spike attenuating circuit having a phase modulating capability to mimic retarder pressure remotely.

Abstract: An improved manifold and valve cartridges suitable for high power (over 600 hp) reciprocating pumps for water blast or jet applications are disclosed. In one aspect, the disclosed valve cartridges are compact and mounted axially along a seat member that has a central bore in addition to suction and discharge seats. The seat member can also be provided a plurality of radially arranged bores for allowing suction flow to the pump. A spool valve assembly can be mounted through the seat member bore, and can include a valve spool, a spherical suction valve member, a compression spring, and compression-locked rings. The spool valve can include a closed flanged end that engages with the seat member discharge seat. In operation, the compression spring continuously pushes the spool valve closed flanged end against the discharge seat and pushes the suction valve member against the suction seat to retain a normally closed position.

Abstract: A system for quickly removing and installing check valve parts without disturbing system piping attached to a pump. The system includes a first adapter attached to the outlet of the pump head. The first adapter includes a valve seat and a housing with a side wall having external threads. A second adapter includes a hollow body with a space for a check valve. The body has an opening in the side wall for inserting the check valve. The second adapter fits over the first adapter and the adapters are attached by means of a collar. Tightening the collar onto the threads on the first adapter causes the check valve to be held firmly between the valve seat and the top wall of the second adapter.

  • Patent number: 7308902
Abstract: The present invention is directed to an subsea valve assembly having a fixed orifice insert that can be removed and replaced using a remotely operated vehicle (ROV). The valve assembly includes a removable orifice insert holder and a threaded receptacle housing into which the removable orifice insert holder is received. The remotely operated vehicle (ROV) installs the removable orifice insert holder into the threaded receptacle in situ. The remotely operated vehicle (ROV) can remove an existing removable orifice insert by removing the removable orifice insert holder and replacing the removable orifice insert holder with another the removable orifice insert holder that has been pre-assembled at the surface with a removable orifice insert of a different size. Thus, the valve assembly according to the present invention can be used to control the flow rate of a subsea fluid using a replaceable fixed orifice insert.

  • Patent number: 7125230
Abstract: A valve is assembled by telescoping a first body component relative to a second body component until reaching a relative position that corresponds to a predetermined valve operation parameter, such as a valve opening pressure. The first body component is then fixed with respect to the second body component at the relative position, such as by laser welding. The present invention finds potential application as a cartridge valve for a pump, such as a pressure relief valve and/or pressure reduction valve. The relative positioning control over the body components de-sensitizes valve operation from variations in valve components, such as variations attributable to geometrical tolerances.

Abstract: A replacement torque converter clutch regulator valve assembly for use within an automatic transmission including two cooperating valves, namely a regulator apply valve and an isolator valve, disposed in fluid communication with a line pressure circuit and a torque converter clutch apply circuit is disclosed. In one embodiment the regulator apply valve employs a regulator apply valve sleeve, which provides support to the regulator apply valve to prevent side loading. Modified control lands on the regulator apply valve have a reduced cross-sectional area calculated to increase the influence of the pulse width modulated solenoid, which provides an output pressure in response to the duty cycle imposed on the solenoid coil in pulse width modulated converter systems. In an alternative embodiment an isolator valve sleeve is utilized for instances wherein the isolator valve bore has extreme wear that cannot be corrected solely by the installation of the replacement isolator valve.

Abstract: A valve assembly includes a valve body with an access opening in which a linearly installed but pivotally operated gate-like valve-stopping mechanism is disposed, said mechanism including a support structure or cartridge with a pivotally moveable valve-stopping element or isolator (e.g., a butterfly element). A method for hot tapping a pipeline with a valve assembly as described above proceeds by (i) connecting the valve body to a line to be tapped, (iii) connecting a hot-tapping machine to the valve body, (iv) connecting a bonnet holding the valve-stopping mechanism to the valve body over the access opening, (v) hot tapping the line, (vi) advancing the valve-stopping mechanism into the valve body interior, and (vii) disconnecting the hot-tapping machine from the valve body with the valve-stopping element pivoted to the first position where it stops fluid communications. The gate-like valve-stopping mechanism can replace a gate in an insert valve (IV) or a repair-under-pressure (RUP) valve.

Abstract: A pushbutton valve assembly for regulating water flow from a water supply to a point of use such as a bubbler head of a drinking fountain. The valve assembly includes a valve body adapted for mounting onto a suitable housing panel or the like, and includes an internal valve cartridge for on-off control of water flow. A pushbutton is rotatably carried by an escutcheon ring mounted rotatably onto an exposed outboard end of the valve body, and this pushbutton is axially movable between depressed and non-depressed positions for on-off operation of the valve cartridge. The pushbutton and the escutcheon ring include respective pairs of axially open wrench ports which can be axially aligned upon appropriate pushbutton rotation to accommodate reception of a tool such as a spanner wrench for rotatably removing the escutcheon ring from the valve body, thereby exposing the valve cartridge for service or replacement.

  • Patent number: 6899120
Abstract: A yard hydrant has an elongated wet pipe with a plunger that seals against the inside of a well casing. Lifting a pivoting handle at the top of the wet pipe lowers the wet pipe which opens a normally closed supply valve. Pressurized water can then flow up the wet pipe and out of a nozzle head mounted to the upper end of the wet pipe. Lowering the handle pulls the wet pipe upward, thereby clearing it from the supply valve which is spring biased to shut off the water supply. The handle has a cam that positively actuates a normally closed anti-siphon valve so that water left in the wet pipe can fall under gravity to a collection chamber within the well casing beneath the piston. Lifting the handle again lowers the wet pipe and forces the water in the collection chamber back up the wet pipe. At the same time, the anti-siphon valve will close and the wet pipe re-opens the supply valve.
