At the remaining point of entry, fluid is evacuated to a positive displacement pump, typically of the Moyno.RTM. variety. This pump discharges fluid received from the tank with sufficient pressure to overcome viscosity-induced friction.

    Abstract: In a fluid pressure regulator, the combination comprising a body forming a cavity and a cap on the body extending over the cavity, the cap and body carrying interengaging threads allowing rotary make-up of the cap on the body; a diaphragm in the cavity and seated on a ledge formed by the body, thereby to form a seal; a pressure transmitting element in the cavity to transmit cap pressure to said seal, the body having flow porting and there being a poppet in the body and movable to control fluid flow via the porting; a spring in the cap and structure in the cavity and axially movable to transmit spring pressure to the diaphragm, the poppet carried for axial movement with the structure, and blocking means to block relative rotary movement between the pressure transmitting element and at least one of the body and the structure.

    Abstract: A unitized, rubber coated valve body for a dry barrel fire hydrant. The valve body is formed to have a hollow, tapered, substantially spherical, cast iron member having a hollow center, a threaded, upwardly facing hole for attachment to a control shaft or stem, a downwardly facing projection, and a rubber coating. The unitized body eliminates labor of assembly during service and maintenance operations. The rubber coating both provides a resilient valve face for effective sealing, and protects metal parts of the valve from corrosion arising from contact with water. The tapered body both distributes force evenly to the rubber valve face in the manner of a prior art metal disc, and enables water to flow therearound with minimized resistance, thereby maintaining head pressure at acceptable levels. The novel valve body satisfies both objectives while minimizing weight and requiring minimal material for fabrication. The body is formed with integral ears for slidably obstructing drain holes.

    Abstract: A top entry flow control valve having a body with an inlet port, an outlet port and an access opening. The body has a cavity connected with the access opening and communicating with the inlet port and outlet port to allow fluid flow through the valve body. A pair of discs with orifices are positioned within the cavity to control flow into the outlet port by rotating one of the discs to change the degree of alignment between the disc orifices. A sleeve, a wear sleeve and a rotatable cylinder are located within the cavity to control flow from the inlet port. The sleeve and the cylinder both have side walls with a set orifices. One disc is secured within the open end of the rotatable cylinder and the other disc is secured to the wear sleeve. By rotating the cylinder, the alignments of the sleeve orifices with the cylinder orifices and of the orifices of the two discs are changed to control flow through the valve.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for sealing a leaking valve on a compressed gas tank to accomodate safe transport of the tank and valve from the place of use in the field to a repair depot where the tank and valve may be safely serviced. The apparatus comprises a valve cap specifically designed for practice of the method. The method resides in the steps of placing the cap over the leaking valve and attaching the cap to the tank, filling the cap with a fusible substance in liquified form, the fusible substance having a fusion temperature in excess of ambient temperature but less than about 200.degree. F. and, upon cooling, solidifying within the cap about the valve, sealing off the cap, transporting the tank, cap and encapsulated valve from the place of use to a repair depot, at the repair depot converting the fusible substance from solidifed form to liquified form and draining the substance from the cap, and removing the cap from the tank and valve to accommodate safe servicing of the valve at the repair depot.
