  • Patent number: 10208883
Abstract: A pressure control apparatus includes a main line section and a branch line operably joined to and extending from the main line section. A housing around the branch line has a first wall and a second wall opposed to the first wall, and a first opening is in the first wall. A plug is operably positioned in the branch line, and the plug has a first position that prevents fluid flow through the branch line and a second position that permits fluid flow through the branch line. A loop extends from the plug, and a lever pivotally connected to the second wall and extending through the loop and the first opening in the first wall positions the plug to the first and second positions.

  • Patent number: 9371934
Abstract: A solenoid actuated valve assembly includes a valve body comprising a fluid inlet and fluid outlet, a valve member disposed within the valve body, wherein a position of the valve member controls a fluid flow between the fluid inlet and fluid outlet, and a fluid chamber above the valve member, wherein the fluid chamber is fluidly isolated from the fluid inlet and outlet. The solenoid actuated valve assembly further includes a solenoid actuator coupled to the valve body comprising a solenoid plunger proximate the fluid chamber, wherein a force multiplying ratio of a surface area of the solenoid plunger exposed to the fluid chamber is at least 1.5:1.

  • Patent number: 7798468
Abstract: A valve closure assembly (50) for remotely and automatically closing a railway tank car valve (V1, V2, V3, V4), characterized by improved convenience in mounting on a tank car dome (160) and adaptability to various dome geometries, valve configurations, and car-to-car dimensional variations. A clamp assembly (52) mounts assembly (50) on dome (160). An adapter (180) operated by a motor (58) turns a valve handle (A1, A2, A3, A4) when motor (58) runs. A positioning mechanism (54) selectively positions adapter (180) relative to clamp assembly (52) to establish a spatial relationship between them for enabling clamp assembly (52) to be placed at a desired location on the dome wall (162) and adapter (180) to engage a valve handle. Positioning mechanism (54) comprises three degrees of freedom of motion for establishing the spatial relationship of adapter (180) to clamp assembly (52), two of which are in the horizontal plane.

  • Patent number: 5480042
Abstract: A retainer is provided for retaining a catch mounted to a first portion of a split ramp car in its unlocked position as a second portion of a ramp car exits a locking area in which it is previously locked. An arm portion of the retainer extends into the locking area and controls the operation of the retainer in response to the movement of the ramp and the locking area. A fluid coupler, automatically couples a first and second portions of a main reservoir pipe and a first and second portions of a brake pipe connected to each first and second portion of the ramp car respectively, when the ramp is in its raised and travel position. Valves in each of the main reservoir passages close the main reservoir passage when the first and second housings are separated and opens the main reservoir passages when the first and second housings are joined. An electrical coupler is also automatically coupled as the two portions of the ramp car are joined.

  • Patent number: 5465753
Abstract: A safety vessel and valve assembly for storage and transport of chemicals is disclosed. The assembly includes a vessel housing a series of retracted valves. A thickened mounting plate provides an area to mount and protect the valves within the vessel, while attaching to the vessel in such a manner to maintain the smooth exterior surface of the vessel. An impact softener and heat resistant shroud covers the vessel exterior protecting the vessel, its valves and chemical cargo during a collision or other external forces.

  • Patent number: 5222517
Abstract: A fluid transport apparatus including a fluid transport tank having a tank shell defining a fluid compartment within it. A well connected to the shell at an opening through the shell is recessed into the perimeter of the compartment. The well and its contents are thereby protectively positioned within the envelope of the shell. Equipment operatively associated with the compartment can be mounted in the well. When the equipment includes a pressure relief valve, the well cover plate can have a vent which can have a rupture disc mounted therein and adapted to open when the valve lifts. A pressure relief valve mounted in the well can be controlled by a valve positioned within the fluid compartment and operatively connected in series with the relief valve. When the equipment is a fluid valve or a relief valve it can be controlled by control equipment mounted in another recessed well, safely spaced from the recessed well of the valve.

  • Patent number: 4069836
Abstract: A brake pipe end cock provided with a pair of operating handles disposed respectively on opposite sides of the end cock, whereby the end cock may be operated from either side of the car, because one handle, which is self-locking on one side, is connected by a crossover bar to the other handle on the opposite side, which may or may not be self-locking, as desired, to provide concurrent movement of the two handles as a unit, said crossover bar being necessary to unlock the self-locking handle in order to effect operation of the valve device if the non-locking handle is the one manipulated.
