  • Patent number: 11536339
Abstract: A cooling system and method for an auxiliary braking device of a hydrogen fuel cell truck, are provided in consideration that auxiliary braking force generated by the regenerative braking of the motor may be unnecessary and the brake resistor may be unnecessary when a sufficient amount of auxiliary braking force is generated alone by the operation of a retarder. A portion of thermal energy generated by the retarder is distributed to a stack cooling system so that the portion of thermal energy is removed by the stack cooling system. Accordingly, due to sufficient cooling of the retarder, a sufficient amount of auxiliary braking force is provided, and the brake resistor that has consumed surplus electrical energy generated by regenerative braking is removed.

  • Patent number: 11105431
Abstract: A valve having an inlet, exhaust, control port, and diaphragm. The diaphragm moves between an open position, in which the inlet and exhaust are in fluid communication, and a closed position, in which the diaphragm blocks fluid from flowing between the inlet and the exhaust. The diaphragm moves from the closed position to the open position when an inlet force due to pressure at the inlet is greater than the sum of the biasing force and a control port force due to pressure at the control port. The valve is operable to automatically drain contaminants from a vehicle air reservoir when the vehicle's emergency brakes are set. To reduce noise, the diaphragm of the valve is preferably in tension when in the closed position, and/or the diaphragm opens a limited distance when in the open position so that a back pressure is generated at the inlet.

  • Patent number: 6164926
Abstract: A variable displacement compressor having a pressurizing passage, which extends through a cylinder block. The pressurizing passage connects a discharge chamber and a crank chamber. A valve is arranged in the pressurizing passage. A drive shaft rotates and produces centrifugal force that causes the valve to open the pressurizing passage. The pressure of the crank chamber is increased when the rotation of the drive shaft is accelerated thereby opening the pressurizing passage with the valve. This moves a swash plate such that its inclination, relative to a plane perpendicular to the drive shaft, decreases. As a result, the compressor shifts from a maximum displacement state to a minimum displacement state, which improves the acceleration performance of an engine connected to the compressor. Furthermore, the displacement of the compressor in the minimum displacement state is 50% of that in the maximum displacement state. This prevents an excessive decrease in the cooling capability of the compressor.

  • Patent number: 4309269
Abstract: A process for conveniently transporting particulate coal and crude oil together as a slurry through a pipeline. The coal, having particle size of 20-350 mesh size range, is added to the oil in sufficient amount to form a transportable coal-oil slurry. The slurry is maintained at sufficient velocity and turbulence in the pipeline to prevent solids settling, and also at sufficient pressure, temperature, and time conditions to liquify at least 5 weight percent of the coal. Also, when the sulfur content of the coal used is less than the oil, the sulfur content of the delivered oil portion is reduced during its transit through the pipeline. At its destination, the oil portion can be separated from the slurry and passed to refining operations, while the coal along with some contained heavy oil can be either liquefied to produce hydrocarbon liquid fuel products, or burned as fuel in a power plant.

  • Patent number: 4038956
Abstract: This disclosure deals with a variable fluid pressure regulator wherein the level at which the fluid pressure is regulated is adjustable. A member has a flow passage formed therein, and the fluid flows through the passage and out of the member, and a closure is positioned over the opening. The closure is yieldably mounted relative to the member and a spring urges the closure toward the opening. A recess or cavity is formed in the closure, and the fluid flows from the opening, into the recess, and then through a space between the closure and the member. The fluid pressure in the passage is a function of the spring force and the effective area of fluid pressure on the closure, and the effective area comprises the area of the opening plus any area of the recess which lies outside the margin of the opening. The regulated fluid pressure level may be varied by laterally shifting the closure relative to the opening in order to change the effective area.
