  • Patent number: 8668183
Abstract: A magnetic safety valve for installation through a tank wall incorporates a piston movable within a valve body. The valve is held normally-closed by two opposite-pole magnets, one in the inner end of the piston, and one in the valve body. A vacuum produced by a pump connected to the valve will act upon the outer end of the piston, producing a force tending to move the piston outward. When the vacuum-induced outward force on the piston exceeds the attractive force between the two magnets, it pulls the piston outward and away from the valve body magnet, unseating the inner end of the piston from the valve body, and allowing outward fluid flow through the valve. A second valve seat may be provided for engagement with an outer portion of the piston to prevent uncontrolled fluid flow out of the tank in the event of valve damage.

Abstract: An application for a living-hinge air vent valve connectable to a sewer conduit includes a base and a cover sealed to the base forming a cavity between the cover and the base. A fluid inlet shaft depends from a roof of the base and is connected to external air passages passing through a side of the base and through vents in a side of the cover. A living-hinge flapper is situated above the fluid inlet shaft and within the cavity. The living-hinge flapper allows air to flow from the fluid inlet shaft into the cavity and prevents sewerage gasses from flowing from the cavity out through the fluid inlet shaft. One or more connecting shafts in the base fluidly connect the cavity with a sewer system.

Abstract: A metallic air admittance valve has a tubular body with a valve chamber integral to one end of the tubular body. The valve chamber has a valve and an air inlet configured to permit the flow of air when the pressure within the valve is less than the pressure outside of the valve, but to prevent the flow of air when the pressure within the valve equals or exceeds the pressure outside of the valve. The tubular body and valve chamber are fabricated from metal and, therefore, do not emit noxious or toxic fumes when subjected to fire. Plumbing systems in commercial buildings may have metallic air admittance valves located within the plenum area of the building without presenting the risk of the distribution of toxic fumes throughout the building when the air admittance valve is subjected to fire.
