Patent number: 4232704Abstract: A back flow preventing device which prevents the reverse flow of water from a point of use into a water supply system. The device has a casting with coaxially aligned inlet and outlet openings, and containing coaxially aligned inlet and outlet check valves. The coaxial alignment of the inlet and outlet openings, and of the inlet and outlet check valves serves to minimize the pressure drop through the device. Between the inlet and outlet check valves is a diaphragm actuated relief valve which opens to drain the passage between the check valves if they should malfunction or if there is a drop in the supply line pressure sufficient to cause actual or potential reverse flow back toward the supply line.Type: GrantFiled: March 28, 1978Date of Patent: November 11, 1980Assignee: Amtrol Inc.Inventors: Bernard S. Becker, John K. Bowman, Cyril A. Randall

Patent number: 4231390Abstract: A fuel spray bar is disposed in the induction passage of an internal combustion engine for spraying fuel into the induction air stream. The spray bar contains a pair of separate fuel distribution rails designated as the main (or light load) fuel distribution rail and the auxiliary (or power) fuel distribution rail. A plurality of spaced orifices communicate each rail with the induction passage. A pressure regulator assembly is disposed on the fuel spray bar and contains a main pressure relief valve assembly, the outlet of which is in communication with the main fuel distribution rail of the spray bar and an auxiliary pressure relief valve assembly, the outlet of which is in communication with the auxiliary rail. A motor driven control pump delivers fuel to the inlet of the pressure regulator assembly. At idle and light engine loading, only the main valve assembly is open so that fuel is sprayed into the induction air passage solely via the main fuel distribution rail and its orifices.Type: GrantFiled: July 17, 1978Date of Patent: November 4, 1980Assignee: Chrysler CorporationInventor: Kenneth W. Patent number: 4163040Abstract: A catalyst spray nozzle for injecting a finely atomized spray of liquid catalyst into a high pressure chemical reactor such as an autoclave reaction vessel for polymerizing ethylene into polyethylene. The liquid catalyst is fed under pressure to the discharge end of a passageway in the spray nozzle. A valve member is biased closed against the discharge end of the passageway by a biasing spring in the form of belleville washers located entirely within the housing of the nozzle and prevents liquid catalyst from passing therethrough until a given backpressure on the catalyst is established. When the given backpressure is reached, the pressure biases the valve member away from the passagway and the catalyst is forced through at least one discharge orifice under sufficient pressure to cause it to be sprayed in a finely atomized state into the reactor.Type: GrantFiled: November 21, 1977Date of Patent: July 31, 1979Assignee: National Distillers and Chemical CorporationInventor: Henri A. Patent number: 4159025Abstract: A back flow preventer valve assembly for protecting fluid supply systems against back flow of contaminating fluids includes a pair of serially connected check valves positioned within respective housings which are connected together and to inlet and outlet fittings by slidable sleeve-type couplings. The couplings are sealed to the fittings and to the valve housings by resilient annular gaskets, preferably O-rings. Tie bolts extend longitudinally from the inlet fitting coupling to the outlet fitting coupling to retain the assembly together. This assembly provides for interchangeability of components, easy removal of the valve units from the line in which they are connected without disconnection of the inlet and outlet fittings, and for easy replacement or substitution of a fitting. Each check valve includes a poppet assembly of advantageous modular construction, with components easily replaceable.Type: GrantFiled: May 6, 1977Date of Patent: June 26, 1979Assignee: Telford L. Patent number: 4129145Abstract: A check valve assembly is disclosed. A hollow valve body is provided with respective upstream and downstream ends. A valve seat is located on the interior of the valve body and has an annular seating surface directed toward the downstream end of the valve body. The seating surface is inclined at an acute angle relative to the centerline of the valve body. A poppet element is provided which has a circumferential surface with a relatively narrow neck proximate the valve seat. The circumferential surface of the poppet element on the downstream side of the neck has a frustoconical configuration. A deformable resilient O-ring circumscribes the poppet element at the neck. The outer diameter of the O-ring is greater than the inner diameter of the annular seating surface of the valve seat so that the flow of fluid through the valve body from the downstream end to the upstream end presses the O-ring against the seating surface to close the valve.Type: GrantFiled: May 26, 1977Date of Patent: December 12, 1978Inventor: James M. Patent number: 4005341Abstract: A transformer is provided that utilizes a substantially fully integral, generally outwardly convex casing or tank for enclosing an electrical transformer in a dielectric environment. The casing has fully integral side and top and bottom end walls, and has an open portion in its top end wall of sufficient size to serve both as a positive low to high pressure release and a maintenance hand hole. An easily inserted and removed cover assembly employs an operating stem, a domed cover member, a clamping member, a nut carrying bracket member and a spring that may be adjusted to a desired pressure relief setting by rotating the stem in one direction. Rotation of the stem in an opposite direction releases its clamping setting and loosens the parts of the cover assembly in such a manner as to permit it to be easily and quickly removed from the open portion by tilting it with respect to and out of the open portion.Type: GrantFiled: December 17, 1975Date of Patent: January 25, 1977Assignee: R. Patent number: 3965916Abstract: An apparatus for stopping the flow of gas under pressure from a relief valve comprises an elongated tube which fits around a flue secured to a tank. The apparatus has means for maintaining the tube in this position. An elongated rod is extended through the tube and secured into a load-transferring position so that it rests on the pressure valve assembly, thus preventing the assembly from opening. The method for sealing off a leaky safety valve has a first step of placing a tube over a flue for a safety valve. This tube has a bar adjustably secured within and generally coaxial with it. The bar is lowered until it sits on the valve head so as to restrain the valve from leaking.Type: GrantFiled: December 23, 1974Date of Patent: June 29, 1976Assignee: Chevron Research CompanyInventor: Gus Karas

Patent number: 3930521Abstract: This invention relates to the art of pressure vessels and more particularly to a valve assembly for use in a pressure vessel of the type having a rigid container with a deformable bladder therein, dividing the container into two variable volume chambers, one adapted to receive gas under pressure and the other to receive liquid under pressure. The valve assembly which is screwed into a port in communication with the gas chamber includes a slidably mounted stem having a resilient valve member at one end normally urged to seat on the beveled inner end of an axial bore in the valve assembly in a first seating position of the valve member, and urged further into said beveled inner end when the bladder is charged with gas under pressure in a second seating position of the valve member. The inward movement of the valve member is limited by a stop carried by the stem. When the liquid chamber is charged, if the bladder should abut against the resilient valve member, no extrusion of the bladder would occur.Type: GrantFiled: September 5, 1974Date of Patent: January 6, 1976Assignee: Greer Hydraulics, Inc.Inventor: Abduz Zahid
