Abstract: An apparatus for monitoring a heating, ventilation, or air conditioning (HVAC) system includes an indoor unit monitor module electrically connected to a current sensor and first and second refrigerant temperature sensors. The current sensor generates a first current signal based on aggregate current consumed by components of an indoor unit of the HVAC system. The refrigerant temperature sensors generate first and second refrigerant temperature signals, respectively, based on measured temperatures of refrigerant circulating within the HVAC system. The indoor unit monitor module receives, from a secondary monitoring module, a second current signal based on aggregate current consumed by components of an outdoor unit of the HVAC system. The indoor unit monitor module transmits data to a remote server to assess whether a failure has occurred or is likely to occur in the components of the HVAC system. The data is based on the current signals and the refrigerant temperature signals.

  • Patent number: 7575410
Abstract: A self-opened type valve is opened by motor torque of an electric motor. Therefore, a diaphragm is not necessary for opening the valve, and downsizing of a valve drive apparatus for opening the valve is possible. Since the valve is assembled to the motor shaft of the electric air pump via a motion-direction conversion mechanism, an opening action of the valve can start in a short time after a rotational action of the impeller of the electric air pump starts, so that control responsiveness is improved. At a rotation stop of the impeller of the electric air pump, the valve can be maintained in a fully closed condition by an urging force of the coil spring, thereby preventing exhaust gases or condensed water from entering into an inside of the electric air pump.

  • Patent number: 6164926
Abstract: A variable displacement compressor having a pressurizing passage, which extends through a cylinder block. The pressurizing passage connects a discharge chamber and a crank chamber. A valve is arranged in the pressurizing passage. A drive shaft rotates and produces centrifugal force that causes the valve to open the pressurizing passage. The pressure of the crank chamber is increased when the rotation of the drive shaft is accelerated thereby opening the pressurizing passage with the valve. This moves a swash plate such that its inclination, relative to a plane perpendicular to the drive shaft, decreases. As a result, the compressor shifts from a maximum displacement state to a minimum displacement state, which improves the acceleration performance of an engine connected to the compressor. Furthermore, the displacement of the compressor in the minimum displacement state is 50% of that in the maximum displacement state. This prevents an excessive decrease in the cooling capability of the compressor.

Abstract: The output rotation of an automatic transmission is transferred to a flyweight to rotate it. A spool is depressed in an axial direction under the centrifugal force of the flyweight, generating a governor hydraulic pressure corresponding to the rotational speed of the flyweight. Some of the governor pressure is fed back to the spool. The force in the direction opposite to the pressing force generated by the flyweight is applied to the spool, thereby balancing the spool. A spring enclosing chamber communicating with the outside is formed serially in the axial direction of the spool and separately from the feedback hydraulic pressure. A force in the direction opposite to the pressing force of the flyweight is exerted on the spool by the spring disposed in the spring enclosing chamber, thereby establishing a breakpoint at which generation of the governor hydraulic pressure occurs.

  • Patent number: 4178137
Abstract: A centrifugal pressure regulator comprises a pair of pistons slidable within a bore and moves in one direction by the action of a coiled spring and by centrifugal force imparted to the pistons as the body in which the bore is located rotates. The outer ends of the two pistons are subjected to the outlet pressure of a pump and the piston adjacent the spring is smaller in diameter than the other piston. The space between the pistons is vented to a drain and in the wall of the bore there is formed a spill port. The smaller of the pistons controls the size of the port which communicates with the outlet of the pump. The outlet pressure of the pump is controlled in accordance with the position of the pistons by spilling fuel through the port, the amount of fuel spilt depending on the effective size of the port.

  • Patent number: 4174724
Abstract: A flow valve mechanism comprising a rotating shaft with a valve body mounted on the shaft for rotation therewith and a valve member mounted for radial movement with respect to said body and said shaft. The valve member has a weighted head and a pressure differential head mounted in a fluid cavity. The pressure differential head divides the cavity into a pair of chambers and an orifice is provided in the pressure differential head communicating with said chambers. A fluid inlet supplies fluid under pressure to one of said chambers, and a fluid outlet is connected to said other chamber whereby the flow of fluid through said orifice and to the outlet will be proportional to the speed of rotation of the shaft.

  • Patent number: 4090821
Abstract: A governor device for rotary grinders and the like is disclosed. The device prevents the dangerous overspeed of the grinder by throttling air to the motor as the grinder speed approaches overspeed. Throttling action is accomplished by means of allowing a resilient split ring or segment to expand radially out against air inlet orifices by means of centrifugal force. The split ring is assisted outwardly by means of an auxiliary mass means disposed within radially extended slots of an internal cage means.

  • Patent number: 3974743
Abstract: A rotating annular piston is hydraulically actuated to engage a rotating friction device, such as a clutch or brake, by introducing fluid pressure to an apply chamber for the piston. Disengagement is subsequently effected by exhausting fluid from the chamber, after which a centrifugal pressure head release valve in a wall of the chamber releases any residual entrapped fluid from the chamber in order to prevent undesired false actuation of the rotating piston that may otherwise occur due to centrifugal force acting on the residual fluid. The valve comprises a metallic ball subject to centrifugal force tending to move it radially outward from the piston axis but held in a tapered or conical seat of an exhaust port, thereby blocking the port, by fluid pressure supplied to the apply chamber. In the absence of that fluid pressure, however, the centrifugal force exerted on the ball unseats it and opens the port.
