Abstract: A connector is provided for connecting an auxiliary device to a fluid circulating system. The connector comprises a body with inlet and outlet ports for connection to the fluid circulating system, and an auxiliary port for connection to the auxiliary device. The auxiliary port diverts fluid from the inlet to the auxiliary device and returns fluid to the outlet port. A collar surrounds the auxiliary port, secured by two spring clips. When the spring clips are both locked, movement between the connector and auxiliary device is prevented. When the first clip is released and the second clip is locked, rotation between the connector and the auxiliary device about the central axis and a predetermined amount of movement along the axis is permitted. The connector can be fitted in a variety of orientations relative to the auxiliary device and angular adjustment is possible while the two remain connected and sealed.

Abstract: A valve is provided. The valve includes a body provided with fluid passages for circulating fluid therein. The body has a body interface with ports connected to the fluid passages. The valve also includes a valve element having a valve element interface facing the body interface. The valve element can move between different positions so as to permit or obstruct communication between the fluid passages. A biasing element biases the valve element interface against the body interface. A load varying mechanism is provided to load the biasing element with different sealing load forces according to the different positions of the valve element. The sealing load force applied on the rotor is thus decreased during rotation, reducing friction between the valve body and the valve element.

  • Patent number: 8997789
Abstract: An apparatus for preventing backflow and contamination, and detecting by-pass leaks in a flow control arrangement is disclosed. The apparatus includes a vent line connecting a sweep gas source and a vent. Constant process-inert gas flows from the source through the vent line into the vent. The vent line is connected with the flow control arrangement. Any leakage in the flow control arrangement is channeled to the vent line and swept into the vent along with the sweep gas. As a result, pressure in the flow control arrangement cannot build up and leakage backflow is prevented. A flow switch may be disposed on the vent line for detecting leakage. The sweep gas flow rate is controlled at a constant level that is inadequate to actuate the flow switch and keeps the flow switch ready to actuate by any superimposed leakage. The flow switch detects a leakage when it actuates.

Abstract: This invention relates to a valve comprising a housing having first and second apertures for the ingress and egress of fluid into/from a passageway located within the housing extending indirectly from the first to the second aperture. The passageway forms an air-lock. The valve further comprises at least one bleed valve for allowing fluid out of the passageway at a rate slower than fluid is able to enter one of the apertures. A liquid entering one of the apertures is prohibited from passing along the passageway to the other of the apertures until substantially all air within the valve has bled out of the bleed valve.

The flow resistance of an adjustable flow resistance device can be adjusted easily and dynamically, without replacing to another device. The flow resistance of the device may also be adjusted to various predefined default settings precisely and speedily by further applying a positioning mechanism that utilizes various predefined positioning holes or a rotary element.

Abstract: The specification generally discloses systems and methods for mixing and delivering fluids in microfluidic systems. The fluids can contain, in some embodiments reagents that can participate in one or more chemical or biological reactions. Some embodiments relate to systems and methods employing one or more vent valves to controllably flow and/or mix portions of fluid within the microfluidic system. Advantageously, fluid control such as a sequence of fluid flow and/or a change in flow rate, can be achieved by opening and closing one or more vent valves and by applying a single source of fluid flow (e.g., a vacuum) operated at a substantially constant pressure. This can simplify the operation and use of the device by an intended user.
