Patent number: 4313452Abstract: The pipe bleeder includes a small holding tank and a sample tube, both of which are filled with water and exposed to the ambient atmospheric temperature. The water in the sample tube freezes first when the ambient temperature is at freezing, which in turn causes a piston and then a push rod in the sample tube to move, the top of the push rod acting against a small cover plate in the holding tank, moving it away from a drain connection. When the cover plate is so moved, water from the water supply pipe will flow at a relatively slow but steady rate through the drain connection to the environment, maintaining a flow of water through the supply pipe and thus preventing the water in the water supply pipe upstream of the pipe bleeder from freezing. An exterior thaw tube is also attached to the drain connection in the holding tank.Type: GrantFiled: August 25, 1980Date of Patent: February 2, 1982Inventor: George K. Mellard

Patent number: 4100930Abstract: A one-shot pressure relief device which can be hermetically sealed comprising a housing with a port fitting for connecting to a pressure zone to be monitored, the fitting having a passage which leads into a central cavity within the housing from the top side. The cavity is divided and sealed into two portions by a thin metallic membrane fixedly mounted adjacent a snap-acting pressure disc member with a central aperture. A hollow puncture member is positioned in the bottom of the housing in axial registry with the center aperture of the snap-acting pressure disc so that upon an over pressure condition in the monitored zone, the disc will snap over center at a predetermined condition allowing the membrane to move likewise piercing itself on the puncture member thereby venting and relieving the over pressure condition.Type: GrantFiled: May 3, 1976Date of Patent: July 18, 1978Assignee: Texas Instruments IncorporatedInventor: John W. Orcutt

Patent number: 4067935Abstract: A volatile anesthetic vaporizing apparatus including a concentration control flow valve means actuated by a substantially linear rotary dial for dividing an inflowing gas stream into two separate streams, one stream being passed over liquid anesthetic to pick up a vapor and the other stream flowing through a bypass duct. The gas stream flowing over liquid anesthetic flows through a temperature responsive valve means, the latter being actuated by a temperature sensitive bimetallic strip which is in direct contact with the vapor saturated air stream which is relatively cool due to the vaporization of the liquid anesthetic. The valve means so situated in the vapor stream essentially does not include any moving parts. Such valve means is formed by the spaced mounting of a planar valve element on a planar surface having vapor opening therein or an inlet passage.Type: GrantFiled: January 2, 1976Date of Patent: January 10, 1978Assignee: Cyprane North America, Inc.Inventors: Wilfred Jones, Keith W. Patent number: 4066091Abstract: A pressure switching valve device including: a valve adapted to open and close an orifice defined in a valve seat; a diaphragm cooperating with the valve and so loaded as to maintain the valve in its open or closed position; and an atmospheric density compensating mechanism in engagement with the diaphragm to compensate for the opening and closing operations of the valve in response to the variation in atmospheric density, whereby the valve is opened and closed by impressing a given pressure on the diaphragm. This valve device features that the direction of a force exerted on the diaphragm so as to maintain the valve in its normally open or closed position is in coincidence with the direction of a force exerted by the atmospheric density compensating mechanism.Type: GrantFiled: September 3, 1975Date of Patent: January 3, 1978Assignee: Hitachi, Ltd.Inventors: Tomo Itoh, Syozo Yanagisawa
