Flap Or Reed Patents (Class 137/855)
  • Patent number: 6644945
Abstract: A reciprocating compressor includes a linear motor having a piston reciprocating inside a cylinder. A cylinder head is provided with suction and discharge orifices. A valve means is mounted inside the cylinder and has an operative position, seated against the discharge orifice. The operative position is defined when the top of the piston is within a certain distance from the cylinder head. The distance is defined, so that, at the end of the compression stroke of the piston, a determined pressure is reached inside the cylinder, and the pressure results in a force on the piston. The force is opposite to a force which is impelling the piston and which is sufficient to interrupt its compression stroke before impacting the cylinder head.

Abstract: A reed valve includes a generally wedge shaped reed cage or block defining a fluid flow passage and having substantially coplanar discharge ports. A reed is mounted at a common hinge end to the reed cage and has a plurality of petals each of which overlies a corresponding one of the ports. The petals have predetermined edge profiles to establish different transverse widths at their hinge axes so that the petals overlying outer low pressure zones in the reed cage lift from their port closing positions at a lower fluid pressure than the petals that overlie higher pressure zones in the reed cage, thereby providing multiple stage lifting and reflex action by the reed petals relative to the reed cage ports.

Abstract: A reciprocating piston machine (1) with at least one inlet and/or outlet valve that has a strip, tongue or lamella shaped closing member (5). The opening movements (8) of the closing member (5) are limited through a stroke restrictor (6) assigned to each valve. The stroke restrictor (6) has or defines at least one ventilation hole (8) inside the contact area of the closing member (5). This ventilation hole (8) prevents the formation of air cushions (7) between the closing member (5) and the corresponding stroke restrictor (6) effectively. In the absence of the ventilation hole (8), the air cushion (7) can limit the opening movements of the closing member (5) prematurely, which in turn could lead to the generation of additional noise.

  • Patent number: 6561143
Abstract: This invention is an effective engine induction valve which provides a decrease in engine blowback while maintaining engine power. This valve uses a moveable member made from a heat-setting material, this member being bent into an elliptical curve when the member is in the closed position. This elliptical curve has an included angle at the edge of the member which opens toward the engine, this orientation being beneficial in reducing blowback. Using springs to limit the force attaching the moveable member to the valve body prevents unwanted buckling of this member when exposed to elevated temperature and fuel. An embodiment is described which provides a valve with a uniform frequency response at various operating conditions, especially different temperatures.

Abstract: A piston-type compressor has a cylinder block in which two or more compression chambers each permits a piston to reciprocate, so as to compress a refrigerant drawn into the cylinders from a suction chamber. The valve stop construction includes a concave portion which enlarges an effective passage area thereof, and a stop portion which restricts the bending amplitude of the reed valve to an appropriate degree and is surrounded by the concave portion. A suction port communicates with a suction line into which the fluids to be carried flow, and a discharge port communicates with discharge line from which the fluids to be carried out are discharged. Reed valves are mounted on the suction port and on the discharge port of the check valve, respectively, in such a manner that the reed valves cover the suction port and the discharge port so as to be able to open and close. Each reed valve includes a first reed valve and second reed valve. The first reed valve is made of pliable material, and is formed to have a size capable of covering the entire respective suction port and discharge port. The second reed valve is smaller than first reed valve and is superposed on the first reed valve to engage the first reed valve such that the first reed valve can open and close, while enhancing sealability thereof.

Abstract: A unidirectional fluid valve for use with a respirator includes a flexible flap initially formed as a flat resilient member. A valve body has a flat valve seat to support the flexible flap. The flexible flap is contoured to make contact with the valve seat when a fluid is not passing through the valve body, and free to lift from the valve seat when a fluid passes through the valve body. The valve body additionally includes an arm located off center relative to the flap and the arm extends inwardly in the valve body to contact the flexible flap off center to push the flexible flap at a position to deform the flexible flap to contour a concave configuration for the flexible flap and provide a secured end and a free end for the flap. In this way the flexible flap is normally pushed into sealing engagement with the flat valve seat when fluid is not passing through the valve body and is free to move away from the valve seat when fluid passes through the valve body.

Abstract: A suction valve for an axial piston compressor has a leaf spring fixed at one end, which spring at one end is fixed with a fixed portion between valve plate and cylinder block, at its other end covers over the suction valve opening with a closure portion and has an intermediate portion connecting these portions. The intermediate portion is located substantially outside the cylinder cross-section. A stop for the suction valve leaf spring is arranged in the region of the cylinder wall facing the fixed portion. This produces an optimum filling of the cylinder and thus an improvement in the efficiency of the compressor, as is especially desirable for refrigeration compressors.
