Abstract: A joining method for joining a second member to a first which is a tubular member having a plurality of hollow portions partitioned by a partition wall portion is provided. The first member 1 is inserted into an insertion hole 6 formed in the second member 5. A die segment 11a of a die 11 and a wedge portion segment 19a of a mandrel 18 are disposed in each hollow portion 3 of the first member 1. Next, in a state in which the partition wall portion 4 is held by and between both wedge portion segments 19a and 19a, each wedge portion segment 18a is inserted into the corresponding wedge hole portion segment 14a of the die segment 11a to thereby move each die segment 11 of the die 11 radially outward of the first member 1. With this, the inserted portion 2a of the first member 1 inserted in the insertion hole 6 and both portions 2b and 2b axially adjacent to the inserted portion are expanded to thereby join the first member 1 and the second member 5.

Abstract: The invention relates to piping comprising a portion wherein the centreline of the portion follows a substantially helical path, wherein the amplitude of the helix is less than or equal to one half of the internal diameter of the piping. When fluid flows in such piping, it is made to swirl. This provides a number of advantages, such as improved in-plane mixing of the fluid, enhanced uniformity of residence time, and so on. The invention also extends to various methods of making such piping.

  • Patent number: 7422035
Abstract: A flat pipe with variable flow capacity comprises a main body shaped as a flat tube wherein opposing ridges are installed at the inner upper and lower positions of the main body, and thin-film spacers are installed between said pairs of ridges, forming multiple passages in the main body. Due to the flexibility of the thin-film spacers, the passages of the main body may stretch to a larger diameter to adjust to increased flow. If the flow is significantly enlarged, the main body will flex at the ridges causing the thin-film spacers to separate which in turn opens flow to the main body, essentially creating one main passage with a large diameter. When flow is stopped or decreased, the main body will restore elastically and resume shape as a flat pipe. According to the above, the present invention discloses a pipe which is easily stored and prevents twisting which could result in deformation, breakage and flow interference.
