Patent number: 8499797Abstract: A vehicle brake line de-icing device for deicing the air brake lines of a tractor trailer or the like. The device is compact with a reservoir having flat sides for best chosen fit and/or mounting. The reservoir can selectively pivot and lock in differing rotational positions on the tubes on each end that are affixed to gladhand connectors for communicating with those on a vehicle. To thaw the brake lines, the user releases air through the brake lines and thereby circulates the antifreeze therethrough. This process thaws the brake lines in approximately 5 to 7 minutes, as opposed to an expensive 2-hour service call.Type: GrantFiled: August 10, 2011Date of Patent: August 6, 2013Inventor: James A. Patent number: 6042120Abstract: Instead of applying the maximum cooling effect that can be produced, the method and apparatus disclosed applies only a carefully controlled cooling that is adequate to maintain the fluid in the pipe in a frozen condition but which maintains the temperature high enough to prevent damage to the metallurgical structure of the pipe. At the same time, the apparatus creates permanent documentation of the temperatures at selected stations along the pipe throughout the process, thereby providing proof that the pipe sustained no thermal damage.Type: GrantFiled: November 25, 1997Date of Patent: March 28, 2000Assignee: Jeffrey E. Patent number: 5746240Abstract: A freeze protection system for a car wash facility having a plurality of bays and having exposed water lines located in an area that is subjected to freezing temperatures. By using a temperature probe connected via a digital temperature meter to a microprocessor, the system will only operate when the temperature is lower than a pre-set value and will shut off when the temperature is higher than a pre-set value. When activated, a predetermined charge of antifreeze mist will purge the piping in each bay, leaving only a small residual of antifreeze. When a bay is used, the system is reactivated, purging only the bay that has been used. The system is easily adaptable to any number of bays or areas of piping that must be protected.Type: GrantFiled: October 17, 1996Date of Patent: May 5, 1998Inventors: Leo Ayotte, Paul Obie

Patent number: 5488968Abstract: A fluidizing apparatus, such as a winterizing apparatus, and related method for preventing freezing of water in the water pipes of a dwelling. The apparatus includes a pump, an inlet line, an outlet line, a pressure switch, and an air compressor tank. The outlet line is connected to a faucet of the water pipes of the dwelling and the inlet line is positioned in a container of fluid, such as antifreeze. When a second faucet is opened, the pump is activated, and the pump will then cause antifreeze to flow from the container, through the inlet line, the pump, and the outlet line, and then into the faucet and through the water pipes of the dwelling. An associated air compressor tank is in fluid communication with the pressure switch and exit line, and cooperates with the pressure switch to maintain consistent pumping of the antifreeze. After antifreeze is in the pipes, a shut-off valve in the exit line is closed and/or the at least one valved water outlet is closed, which causes the pump to deactivate.Type: GrantFiled: May 23, 1995Date of Patent: February 6, 1996Inventors: John R. Patent number: 5293904Abstract: A pneumatic liquid injector de-icing system designed for use on air brake lines of a train includes an alcohol storage tank provided with fittings for engagement between the train air supply lines and the train brake lines. The storage tank may be provided with a pressure gauge for monitoring pressure in the system. In use, when operating in cold conditions where brake line freezing is encountered, alcohol is introduced into the brake lines. The alcohol absorbs moisture and thaws ice in the brake lines so as to prevent ice-up. In an alternative embodiment, one line of the storage tank is terminated by a plunger so it may be used to unclog toilets. In yet another alternative embodiment, one line of the storage tank is adapted to be connected to an RV so the latter may be winterized.Type: GrantFiled: March 11, 1993Date of Patent: March 15, 1994Inventor: Dennis F.
