  • Patent number: 11253697
Abstract: An integral closure mechanism is described to be used for implantable cuffs of tubular shapes. This mechanism relates to cuffs used to surround internal organ or tissue in animals and human for specific clinical applications or for evaluation purposes in biomedical research. The closure mechanism is designed to provide a safe and reliable way in keeping the cuff in its original dimension around biological tissue, and to assist in surgical implantation by introducing a convenient and less time-consuming method to secure the cuff at the surgical site. To eliminate distortion of the implantable cuff by having an integral closure mechanism, the underlying body tissue is better protected from damages caused by compression of the cuff and from connective tissue overgrowing at the distorted sites. Thus, therapeutic attempts by using implantable cuffs may reach their desired potential in various applications.

  • Patent number: 10663103
Abstract: The present invention provides an adjustable clamp apparatus having curved arms which pivot/articulate relative to each other. The distance between pivot points can be adjusted via specially configured couplers having nuts and threaded rods. The curved arms can be locked together with a rod placed in a slot, and then squeezed by rotation of threaded rod. In the interior of the curved arms there can be a plurality of projections or contact points. A strap can be connected to a selected adjustable clamp (e.g., by a pair of padeyes) and used to raise and lower the clamp. When being lowered onto a pipe to be repaired, the curved arms can be open wide and when their upper portions make contact with the pipe to be repaired, this contact will tend to cause arms to close around the pipe relative to each other. Once clamped against the pipe with the clamps, the repair members can be welded together.

  • Patent number: 10215324
Abstract: A method of coating a field joint of a pipeline places at least one body having a thermoplastics material around the field joint. The body is heated in a mold cavity around the field joint to effect thermal expansion of the thermoplastics material. Thermal expansion of the body in the mold cavity is constrained to apply elevated pressure between the body and pipe sections joined at the field joint. The elevated pressure improves bonding and fusing between the body, which forms a field joint coating, and the parent coatings and the exposed pipe sections of the pipe joints. The body need not be fully molten, which reduces the mold residence time including in-mold heating and cooling phases.

  • Patent number: 10040113
Abstract: A self-aligning swaging punch is provided for adjoining together a pin and a workpiece having a pinhole. The swaging punch comprises a shaft and a tip having an open-ended cavity. The shaft transfers an axial force from a press or hammer to the tip. The tip transfers the axial force from the shaft to a top surface of the workpiece near the pinhole. The tip may be spherical in shape for evenly deforming the workpiece near the upper edge of the pinhole. The open-ended cavity receives the pin therein and allows the pin to extend at least partially into the open-ended cavity while the tip contacts the workpiece. The open-ended cavity also ensures that the swaging punch is aligned with the pinhole and perpendicular to the surface of the workpiece when the pin is inserted into the pinhole such that the workpiece evenly deforms and presses against the pin.

  • Patent number: 10036497
Abstract: A joint restraint for deforming an outer diameter of a pipe for insertion into a socket. The joint restraint can selectively mount to a portion of an irregularly shaped pipe having a maximum outer diameter that differs from a desired substantially constant outer diameter. The joint restraint can have a circumferential ring body surrounding a central axis. A plurality of jacking assemblies can be secured to a portion of the ring body. Each jacking assembly can have a frame and a jacking bolt. The frame can have a threaded aperture that can receive the jacking bolt. Each jacking bolt can be selectively actuatable for radial movement relative to the central axis to deform the pipe proximate the maximum outer diameter of the pipe by selectively urging an outer surface of the pipe to the desired substantially constant outer diameter.

  • Patent number: 9982829
Abstract: An external sleeve arrangement for repairing a defective length of pipe has top and bottom segments for substantially encircling the pipe, where the bottom segment in addition has connector plates welded on either side. When the pipe and sleeve segments are made of a similar material, the sleeve segments are made thicker than the pipe wall, up to three times as thick or more, so that upon heating the sleeve segments for a given time they stretch relative to the pipe. After joining the stretched sleeve segments with the connector plates to form a continuous circumferential sleeve, the sleeve is cooled to provide an enhanced interference fit to reinforce the defective length of pipe. Prior to heating, the sleeve segments are clamped about the pipe using a clamping mechanism employing lugs connected to the segments and screw jacks engaging those lugs to draw the segments tight to the pipe.
