Abstract: A dual mode LCD device includes first and second substrates facing each other; a first electrode on an inner surface of the first substrate and having a plate shape; a first insulating layer on the first electrode; a second electrode and a third electrode on the first insulating layer, being spaced apart from each other and extending along a first direction; a fourth electrode on an inner surface of the second substrate; and a liquid crystal layer interposed between the first and second substrates and including chiral dopants, wherein liquid crystal molecules of the liquid crystal layer are stably arranged in a first twist state and a second twist state, wherein the first and second twist states are used for a memory mode and the second twist state and a vertical alignment state are used for a dynamic mode.

Abstract: A redundant electricity-conducting structure, and a method for making it, for use in a liquid crystal display ("LCD"). The LCD has a first layer and a second layer covering a portion of the first layer such that an edge is formed where the second layer starts. The redundant structure includes: a first conductor partially covering each of an area over the first layer and the second layer such that the first conductor must undergo a large change in surface direction where the conductor follows the edge contour of the second layer; and a redundant second conductor connected to and partially covering the first conductor at least in an area extending outside of an area under which is located the large change in surface direction.
Abstract: An improved shuttle box for use on a loom, the box having one or more shuttle receiving cells each containing an elongated binder which is adjustably mounted and pivotally movable under fluid pressure from a retracted position to an extended shuttle engaging position, the binder, upon contact by the shuttle, acting to provide controlled deceleration of the shuttle as opposed to impact stoppage of the shuttle, the shuttle box being constructed of non-metallic materials which act to dampen noise, the binder components and the fluid pressure applying means being cushioned to assist in noise reduction.
