Patent number: 8757215Abstract: A textile sleeve for routing and protecting elongate members and method of construction thereof are provided. The sleeve has a wall of interlaced monofilament and/or multifilament yarns. Opposite edges of the wall extend along a central axis of the sleeve. The opposite edges are biased into a self-wrapping, overlapping relation with one another to bound a tubular cavity in an in-use first configuration. A plurality of elongate hinges formed with the interlaced yarns extend along the length of the sleeve in substantially parallel relation with the central axis, with the hinges separating relatively rigid, arcuate regions of the wall from one another. The hinges allow the arcuate regions to be moved from the expanded in-use tubular first configuration to a collapsed, second configuration nested with one another to allow significantly increased numbers of the sleeves to be shipped and stowed in a significantly reduced volume of space.Type: GrantFiled: August 22, 2012Date of Patent: June 24, 2014Assignee: Federal-Mogul Powertrain, Inc.Inventor: John E. Patent number: 7431055Abstract: A method for weaving a pile fabric with areas having a corded structure, a backing fabric being woven on a weaving machine by inserting backing weft yarns during successive weft insertion cycles between binding and tension warp yarns, while pattern-weft yarns are inserted outside the backing fabric, and are covered by pile warp yarns forming cords. Successive series of different pattern-weft yarns are inserted into the pile fabric in areas having a corded structure and at least one pattern-weft yarn of each series is running essentially above the warp yarns in a first part of its trajectory and is forming the pattern, and is covered by pile warp yarns essentially forming cords in a second part of its trajectory, so that a predetermined pattern or design is formed. This enables the color palette and/or the effect palette to be modified across the width of the weaving machine with weft effects.Type: GrantFiled: November 8, 2006Date of Patent: October 7, 2008Assignee: N.V. Patent number: 7111648Abstract: A terry fabric comprises a plurality of repeat units of interwoven warp and weft threads. Each of the repeat units comprises a set of ground warp threads, a set of pile warp threads, and a set of weft threads. The ground warp threads are woven tightly with the weft threads to form a substrate, and the pile warp threads are loosely interwoven with the weft threads to form pile loops. At least two adjacent weft threads are interwoven with the ground warp threads and the pile warp threads in an identical pattern (typically in a single machine cycle). In this configuration, fabrics with different properties can be producing in similar manufacturing duration, particularly if weft threads of different thread weight are employed.Type: GrantFiled: February 13, 2004Date of Patent: September 26, 2006Assignee: Springs Industries, Inc.Inventors: Paul H. Mitchell, John V. Wirth

Patent number: 6945280Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for weaving pile fabrics on a face-to-face weaving machine, where, in successive insertion cycles, weft yarns (1-12) are inserted between binding warp yarns (13-16) and pile warp yarns (17-24), so that two backing fabrics (30), (31) are woven one above the another, in which groups of at least four weft yarns (1-6); (7-12) are inserted in respective openings between repeatedly crossing binding warp yarns (13), (14); (15), (16), so that each group of weft yarns (1-6); (7-12) comprises at least two pairs of weft yarns (2,3), (5,6), (8,9), (11,12) inserted above one another, and so that pile warp yarns (18), (21), (24) are interlaced in the upper (30) and in the lower backing fabric (31) alternately round the weft yarns (2), (5), (8), (11), situated on the back, of the said pairs in order to form pile burls, preferably according to a two-shot weave; The present invention likewise relates to pile fabric woven according to this method.Type: GrantFiled: September 11, 2003Date of Patent: September 20, 2005Assignee: N. Patent number: 6367514Abstract: A fabric with a rib structure, in particular a false boucle carpet, with cut pile (13) and/or pile loops (12) is formed by a method for weaving such a fabric. On a weaving machine, such as a rod weaving machine, a backing fabric is woven by bringing weft yarns (1), (2), (3) between warp yarns (4-9) in successive weft insertion cycles, alternately weaving in warp yarns (7), (8) in the backing fabric and rib-formingly passing them around over at least one weft yarn (3). In a number of weft insertion cycles a loop-forming element (10), such as for example a wire or a wire with a blade, is provided above the backing fabric and at least one pile warp yarn (7), (8) is loop-formingly passed around over this loop-forming element (10). This method enables weaving of a fabric with a very varied appearance, because apart from the false boucle effect, areas with pile loops (12) and/or areas with cut pile (13) can also be obtained.Type: GrantFiled: July 25, 2000Date of Patent: April 9, 2002Assignee: N.V.
