  • Publication number: 20010045003
Abstract: A wire tensioning apparatus and method tensions one or more wires by moving the tensioning function from a wire module to an apparatus external to the wire module. Externally to the wire module, a wire is attached to a fixed end and a movable end. Tension is placed on the wire, and the tension in the wire or the vibrational frequency of the wire is detected and compared to a desired value. If the tension in, or the vibrational frequency of, the tensioned wire does not correspond to the desired value, the tension is further adjusted until the desired value is met. Once the desired tension or the vibrational frequency is met, the wire is secured in the wire module in order to maintain the achieved tension and/or vibrational frequency.

  • Patent number: 4815648
Abstract: A hand-held welding device utilizes a multiple upset cold pressure welding technique to join abutting end surfaces of a pair of wire members. The welding device includes a pair of spaced-apart, parallel tie rods for supporting a stationary V-block in spaced apart relationship with a moveable V-block. A welding die assembly is positioned between and is actuated by the two V-blocks. An end plate is secured to one end of the tie rods adjacent the stationary V-block, while a fixed handle is adjustably secured to the opposite end. A moveable handle is pivotally mounted relative to the fixed handle and includes a working roller which engages the moveable V-block to force the V-blocks against the die assembly. As the V-blocks are forced against the die assembly, the die assembly is operated to force the ends of the wire members against one another to form a cold pressure weld.

  • Patent number: 4141389
Abstract: A wire-fastening mechanism has a wire shaping and guiding device and a pivoted hook-shaped needle which co-operate together to fasten a wire to a connector lug by forming a cross loop of wire through a triangular formation of apertures in the lug. The wire shaping and guiding device has two opposed members between which the lug is inserted. Wire guiding grooves are provided in the opposed members to define one and a half turns of a helical channel around which wire is pushed to thread the aperture lugs as the wire passes between wire guiding grooves of the opposed members. The hook-shaped needle receives the leading end of the wire after it has passed through the triangular formation of apertures. Pivoting of the needle draws the leading wire end beneath a run of the wire between two of the apertures thereby to form a cross loop of wire.

  • Patent number: 4000764
Abstract: Lead wires from the field coils of a two-coil, two-pole stator for a motor of the universal type are wound about posts projecting outwardly from a wire retainer mounted to the stator by means of cannulas encircling said posts and having hook portions for engaging the coil lead wires. Lead support means support leads emanating from already wound field coils at positions adjacent said posts, there being four posts and four cannulas, each telescopically encircling one of said posts. Drive means simultaneously rotate all four cannulas in directions appropriate to cause the hook portions thereon to engage the four leads emanating from the two coils and continued rotation of the cannulas causes the hook portions thereon to wind the lead wires about the posts as the lead support means permits the lead wires to be drawn therethrough while maintaining the lead wires under tension as they are wound about the posts.
