Patent number: 11235438Abstract: The present invention provides a mandrel tool and method for more efficiently and consistently forming various shapes of material. In one embodiment of the invention, a pair of pliers having mandrel jaws that are shaped with a uniform cross sectional area throughout a length of the mandrel jaw is used to replace the traditional tapered mandrel. Because the mandrel jaws have a uniform cross sectional area, the wire, for example, can be wrapped multiple times around the mandrel jaw when it is desired to produce multiples of the same shape. For added versatility, the pliers can have opposing mandrel jaws, with different size cross sectional area.Type: GrantFiled: March 14, 2019Date of Patent: February 1, 2022Assignee: Wubbers, LLCInventor: Patricia Bullard

Patent number: 4597419Abstract: A support mechanism for a rotatable conductor wrapping bit for quick detachment from a conductor wrapping tool includes a housing for the bit and for a rotatable bit driver member. Radially inwardly projecting pins are disposed on the housng and project into a bore which receives a sleeve on the motor housing having opposed "j" slots. One of the pins is radially inwardly movable into locking engagement with the bit driver member whereby, upon detachment of the support mechanism from the motor casing, the bit driver member and the bit are locked in a predetermined indexed or rotationally oriented position relative to the housing. The bit driver member includes a spring disposed in a bore formed therein and engageable with a coupling part for permitting axial excursion of the bit to accommodate the axial space occupied by successive helical convolutions of conductor wire as a coiled connection is formed.Type: GrantFiled: August 13, 1985Date of Patent: July 1, 1986Assignee: Cooper Industries, Inc.Inventors: Clifford L. Galloup, Paul D. Stack, Jr.

Patent number: 4586358Abstract: Disclosed is a machine and method for bending an elongate bar of metal or other appropriate material into a general "V-shape", the vertex of the "V" being a coiled spring. The machine for making the device has a motor driven, horizontally rotating spool with a spool arm to grip and bend the bar about a generally vertical axis. In manufacturing the V-shaped device, a central portion of the bar is placed against the spool so that the spool's arm can grip the bar for winding the bar about the spool. The bar is then bent an appropriate number of times around the spool to form the coiled spring portion, and thereafter the spool rotated backward a portion of a turn to loosen the coils about the spool. The device can then be removed from the machine and finished into any number of products. An example of use for such a V-shaped device is as an exerciser, exercising being performed by bending the V-arms together against the force of the coiled vertex.Type: GrantFiled: February 10, 1984Date of Patent: May 6, 1986Inventor: Philip Mangiapane

Patent number: 4467842Abstract: A device for stripping insulation from magnet wire and wrapping the stripped wire around a terminal in a series of helical convolutions is described. The device includes the normal rotatable wrapping bit having a wire receiving groove disposed on the periphery of the bit, this groove being radially offset from a terminal receiving bore in the bit. The device includes a fixed sleeve surrounding the bit with a wire receiving slot extending outwardly therefrom. It has a hooked shaped insulation stripping edge positioned transversely of the wire path and being radially positioned inwardly from the groove.Type: GrantFiled: May 2, 1983Date of Patent: August 28, 1984Assignee: Cooper Industries, Inc.Inventors: Clifford L. Patent number: 4425948Abstract: Wire wrapping tool with a cylindrical wrapping bit which during its rotation carries a wire in a longitudinal groove so that the wire can be wound onto a tag located in the axial prolongation of a wrapping bit. The wrapping bit (6) is provided with a nozzle (9) which can rotate freely relatively to the wrapping bit and has an inclined hole (11). By inserting the end part of the wire into the hole (11) this is held by means of frictional engagement with the two opposite edge parts (13, 14) of the hole when turning the wrapping bit. When turning the nozzle relatively to the wrapping bit the end part of the wire is wound onto the tag and the wire is released.Type: GrantFiled: December 7, 1981Date of Patent: January 17, 1984Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget L M EricssonInventor: Eric Sterner

Patent number: 4418875Abstract: A threading tool intended primarily for use as an electrical wiring pencil has a tubular body housing a manually operable brake member which can be moved into frictional engagement with the edges of a rotatable spool to restrain movement of connecting wire through the body. The brake member is housed in a recessed channel which is open to the outside of the body along its entire length via a relatively narrow slot. The slot and the channel are open at the spool end of the tool to allow easy assembly of the brake member into the tool. Insertion and removal of the spool is performed by prising apart jaws at the end of the body. When inserted, the spool holds the brake member in place.Type: GrantFiled: September 28, 1981Date of Patent: December 6, 1983Assignee: Roadrunner Electronic Products LimitedInventor: Terence J. Brine

Patent number: 4413660Abstract: Apparatus for the rapid twist-tying of a wire ceiling hanger onto a ceiling joist, comprising easily bendable wire of U-shape with a relatively longer leg and a relatively shorter leg having their respective axes in a common plane and radially spaced for straddling the joist, the apparatus comprising an axially rotatable handle slidably engaging the joist-straddling wire hanger by the longer of its legs and radially inward of the hanger shorter leg, and pivotally mounted on the handle a fork adapted to capture the shorter hanger leg for helical movement around and toward the hanger longer leg responsive to simultaneous rotation and axial displacement of the handle relative to the joist, whereby the captured shorter leg is wrapped around the hanger longer leg freely of the handle.Type: GrantFiled: September 21, 1981Date of Patent: November 8, 1983Inventor: James R.
