Float Control Cut-off Patents (Class 141/229)
  • Patent number: 8646495
Abstract: A fuel tank for vehicles has a filler tube and a filling level limiting device, with the filler tube comprising, in the interior of the fuel tank, a closing device which interacts with an actuating device which is composed of: a) a frame which is fastened in the interior of the fuel tank and which has a force store which actuates the closing device; b) a locking arrangement which holds the force store in the stressed state; c) a release mechanism which is operatively connected to a float; and d) a stressing mechanism for stressing the force store. The actuating device ensures that a flap closes precisely when a nominal filling level is reached, and does not open again even under intense fluctuation of the liquid level.

  • Patent number: 6619341
Abstract: A pouring spout for hand-held portable fuel tank incorporates a float valve to automatically shut off fuel flow through the spout when the fuel level in a receiving reservoir reaches a given spatial relationship with the outlet end of the spout. An axially displaceable locking magnet within the spout locks the valve in the closed position. The locking magnet is released from its locking position by an unlatching magnet incorporated in a sealing cap. The unlatching magnet cancels the magnetic force that holds the magnetic valve in the closed position, thereby allowing it to move to its open position only when the closure cap is in position to seal the spout. The locking mechanism includes an axially displaceable magnet of given axial length, that is captured within a sealed container positioned in the pouring spout. The sealed container has an axial length greater than the length of the magnet.

  • Patent number: 6499518
Abstract: A safety valve assembly for use with a portable container, such as for dispensing fuel to a vehicular gas tank, where the valve assembly features a pair of fluid sealing members to be manually activated to effect dispensing of the fluid from the container. A first of said sealing members includes a magnetizable float member that further functions to automatically shut-off the fluid dispensing procedure before the receiving receptacle overflows, thus avoiding a problem with unwanted spillage. The second sealing member is activated by applying pressure to the container against the receiving receptacle, whereby premature spillage is further avoided during transporation of the fluid filled container. Finally, a rotatable lock mechanism, in the form of a camming system, is provided.

  • Patent number: 5398735
Abstract: A filling regulator for a liquid storage tank of the type according to which a float is displaced vertically in the float chamber provided in the body of the regulator. The regulator includes a deflector slanted over the inner wall of the body and installed above the gate at a far enough distance above the float chamber to allow the gate to be positioned in the full-open position. The deflector includes slanted, spaced-apart blades which are joined at their lower ends by a protective base.

  • Patent number: 5388622
Abstract: A two-stage float actuated shut-off valve for use in underground fuel storage tanks utilizes a drop tube coaxially mounted within the storage tank fill pipe. Fuel flowing into the tank is passed through the drop tube which projects downwardly into the interior of the tank to a valve housing located at the lower end of the drop tube. Floats slidably mounted in a recessed area in the housing outside of the drop tube within the tank independently operate pivoted valve doors to a closed position within the valve housing, a lower float closing one valve door to block a major portion of incoming fuel flow passage when the level of fuel in the storage tank reaches a predetermined first level and a second upper float causing the secondary valve door to overlap an aperture in the main valve door to almost completely close the flow of fuel to the tank.

  • Patent number: 5381838
Abstract: In a fuel inlet device for a fuel tank, a flap valve is provided at an end of a fuel filler tube opening into the fuel tank, and a float which rises with a rise in a surface level of the fuel in the tank closes this flap valve when the fuel surface level has reached a prescribed level. Thus, when the surface level of the fuel in the fuel tank has reached a prescribed level, the flap valve linked with the float is closed, and prevents any more fuel from being filled into the fuel tank because the filling nozzle detects this rise in the surface level of the fuel in the filler tube, and stops filling any more fuel into the tank. Therefore, it is possible to connect the breather tube in the fuel tank directly with a canister device without the intervention of a relief valve, and the internal pressure of the fuel tank can be maintained substantially no higher than the atmospheric pressure. Thus, the release of fuel vapor from the filler cap can be avoided.

  • Patent number: 5156197
Abstract: A float type liquid level meter is provided having an enhanced resistance against vibration transmitted from outside of the float type liquid level meter. The inventor obtained a finding that an external vibration is amplified with a connecting lever which is composing a part of the float type liquid level meter and a fluctuation of an output signal of the float type liquid level meter is proportional to the vibration of the connecting lever. An enhanced resistance against vibration is achieved by providing a connecting lever having a structure which prevents the connecting lever from generating vibration of a low order mode.

  • Patent number: 5027870
Abstract: A float chamber located in generally parallel, laterally spaced relationship to the main liquid flow passageway contains superimposed floats that move along a substantially linear path of travel. The floats cooperate with other control components to effect closure of a main valve assembly when the liquid level adjacent the mechanism reaches a preselected first elevation, and to close a bleed valve assembly when the liquid level reaches a second, higher elevation. The main valve assembly includes a movable plate valve that is spring biased toward an open position and that is biased toward a closed position by the force of liquid adjacent thereto and upstream therefrom. A latch and associated catch prevent movement of the valve plate to its closed position until such time as the liquid level reaches the first elevation.
